Paulo Fonseca officially the new manager of Shakhtar Donetsk - don't know if Lopetegui would really fit Braga
Hello there, I want your opinion on Fonseca (with his coaching staff) as Braga manager (and in general) and do you think he'll handle Shakhtar task?
From a Braga fan, he was without a doubt the best coach Braga had in the recent years along with Jardim from Mónaco. He implemented a 4-4-2 that emphasised ball possession. In this model, there were two center midfielders responsible for defending, getting the ball from the defence, and transitioning to the attack. Another two side midfielders defended the flanks but attacked through interior movements. The true wingers are the side backs. Usually, he plays with a striker and a center forward who offers support to the striker and the side midfielders. His teams do a lot of vertical passes and often play through the middle. The result is a pleasant attacking football capable of breaking any defence, and with the right players it is very effective. The only drawback of this model is that the midfield is very exposed if the team loses the ball while still building an attacking play. I saw Shakhtar against Braga in the two recent confrontations. Comparing to Rusescu's football, with Paulo Fonseca, Shakhtar should be a team that relies much less on quick transitions and more on organised attacks. Given that you have some talented attacking players, especially Brazilians, I think it should work well, but it may be less effective against stronger opponents. I also have to say that Paulo Fonseca is an excellent person. It's common in Portugal for coaches to launch constant attacks during press conferences, but he rarely did that. He is very humble. His only problem as a person may be his lack of authoritarian personality to deal with egos. That's mainly what caused his failure at Porto.
Thank you for your answer and boa sorte on future endeavours with new staff! Hopefully attacking football will remain your trend for years to come aswell. What you described seem matches Shakhtar team quite well (despite we used to 4-2-3-1 ever since uefacupwinning 08/09) and players that club currently got, it's even like returning to pre-2009 era, as we played something similar back then. From what I've saw from the Taca final though (congratulations on that, btw!) Porto dominated possesion way to much to my likings (I understand the difference between the teams though, good that Paolo managed beat them in the league aswell as I checked) and that your defencive work and defence-midfield connection was far from perfect, it wasn't without some luck (and foolishness of Porto players that did A LOT of clownery in there) but what I've really liked that your wingers were on the spot and received both long balls or keeping up zone attacking tempo with right timing, forcing Porto do a lot of mistakes, including their keeper's crucial ones. Was there a confict between him and players/someone else at his spell at Porto? By the way, your former assistant coach Miguel Cardoso (who worked for Braga at your great season 10/11 when we've met in UCL), will now be assisting Paolo at Shakhtar first team. He was our Reserves manager here for 3 years prior to Paolo's arrival.
Braga has been terrible since the Shakhtar matches, probably due to the tiredness of players. They reached the cup match with over 60 matches and multiple injured players. For a better example of the best Braga from this season, check out Braga - Sporting for the cup, where Braga beat Sporting by 4-3. Sporting was a much better team than Porto this year, beating both Porto and Benfica. Good examples of how things can go wrong with this model are the Benfica matches, where the team dominated possession and created significant chances for a while, but allowed for deadly counter-attacks which completely killed them. However, I think that with a stronger midfield and more effective strikers Braga would have faired much better in those matches. The issue was more in losing possession in dangerous areas than tactical mistakes. No blatant conflict, but the players didn't seem to work hard nor listen to what he said.
Say hello to Braga's new coach http://www.ojogo.pt/futebol/1a-liga/braga/noticias/interior/jose-peseiro-no-braga-5209144.html Not a great coach in my opinion, but he's a classy person. Quite impressed the way he left FCP. No negativity just pure class.
Class yes. Will he bring Braga up a level? Doubt it. I actually think Guimaraes can finish above Braga w/ Peseiro and Guimaraes w/ Pedro Martins
Yeah, nothing bad to say about Peseiro. He came in to a bad situation and handled himself well. I'm sure the Braga fans are thankfull they didn't get Lopetegui
Braga have brought in Uruguayan and former player Luis Aguiar back to the club. Such a great player when he was at Braga also did well at Peñarol in the Liberatores. Also signed Argentina U-21 Tomás Martinez from River Plate of the Primera Division de Argentina Battaglia and Pedro Tiba look set to be back in the mix and Danilo Silva looks set to return from Valencia loan Not a bad off season
Braga to sign Gremio Porto Alegre LB Marcelo Hermes Dual Brazilian and German national. 21 years old highly rated LB who refused to sign new contract with Gremio. Comes on a free contract with a 15M€ buyout. Luis Aguiar returns to Braga aswell. Stojiljkovic had a 12M€ bid from a Bundesliga club but Braga don't want to sell without a replacement
Where has good dead been ? Maybe been busy ordering his benfica Rafa jersey ? Been a great year to be a braga fan . Benfica tri campeao , sporting loses title (moreso than benfica winning it ), braga wins cup , loses supercup to their daddies and sells Rafa to them . lampioes do Norte
Dragartos do sul. Braga being Benfica fans is the greatest myth in Portuguese football, and you, who never lived here, are the most ignorant type of person to talk about that. Go watch news about WC's transfer.
Braga have had a good offseason with the amount of funds brought in. Wallace, Rafa, Kritskyuk etc Braga have also brought in some good players in Velazquez, Aguiar, Martinez, Joan Roman, Rosic, Bakic and Horta meanwhile keeping the likes of Stojiljkovic, Hassan, Vukcevic, Pedro Santos, Willy Boly, Marafona and got guys like Moreno and Tiba from their loans. Plus they kept Goiano and Baiano imho the best fullbacks in the Liga. If anything Salvador is laughing all the way to the bank.
That's why braga fans were cheering last season on the last day agaiant sporting when benfica scored to seal the league title Than they got beat down in their own stadium by sporting supporters
That's why Benfica fans were kicked out of our stand in the Supercup, and Sporting fans were hit hard for being arrogant pricks. Braga is here to stay. É lidar.
