The FA Cup doesn't use away goals because each round is one game if there is a winner. Today's game was a second leg.
OK, so where are people going to watch the final? I would love to watch it with a bunch of Rs fans. My preference would be either Flanagans in Bethesda or one of the soccer pubs over in Virginia-- although since Kitty's shut I am not as familiar with which one is best. But I am happy to travel and try new places as long as TV is big and the food is good (or at least hot).
I wish I could, but that Saturday is booked solid (thankfully I do have some time in the morning to follow the match though). Enjoy - hope a place cranks up the sound for you - Fado kept their crappy music on Friday
Flanagan doesn't play music during football, so that isn't a problem. When we saw the first leg, FADO had the music on all the time. They did put some sound on the football, so you could sort-of hear the atmosphere, but your couldn't really make out the commentary.
I have just called Flanagans and they will not be open for the game. Grrrr.. Apparently, the pub Ireland's Four Courts in Court House/Arlington will be open for the game, so it look like that is where I will watch it, unless anyone has a better idea. http://www.irelandsfourcourts.com/sports/ 2051 Wilson Boulevard Arlington VA 22201 703.525.3600
It's pretty funny how little attention the playoffs get over here -- when the Premier League is now so popular. We're talking about the biggest $$$ stakes in all of sports with this match! Of course most of the world doesn't know that football exists beneath the top 6 of the Prem.
What's weird is that they would almost always open at 7am for a QPR game when we were in the Prem if I called in advance and asked. But now we are in the Championship play-offs final they aren't willing to open at 10am. Even when we were a Premiership team it would usually be just me and my son.
Did I miss a memo that instructed all Bigsoccer R's fans to move to the DC area? This Iowa R's fan will spend tomorrow morning telling my wife that the grass is too wet to mow and trying to convince my kids to go play in another room!!!
Congratulations. Derby County had 68 percent of the possession. QPR's only shot on target went in. O'Neil of QPR was ejected in the 60th minute but luckily for QPR the foul was before the attacker reached the penalty area so it wasn't a penalty kick.
Check out this commentary. Absolutely classic. I've probably watched it 100 times already. http://deadspin.com/bbc-announcer-goes-bonkers-as-qpr-scores-90th-minute-wi-1581083245/+bubbaprog By the way, Ireland Four Courts was a great place to watch a game. It is right opposite Summers. There were a few other QPR fans there and we all sat up along the bar. There were probably 10 TVs on all tuned to the game. The bar lady was very friendly and supportive. When we scored the lot of us ware bouncing around the bar going mad. All round a great vibe. Its a bit further from my house than Flanagans, but I'd definitely go back.
Horrible article. Don't read that crap. There has to be something better to read than that nasty piece of work. Here's a couple that are a bit more balanced: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/fo...Championship-play-off-final-match-report.html http://www.theguardian.com/football...-qpr-championship-play-off-final-match-report
Here's a nice bit of prose from Clive Whittingham. http://www.fansnetwork.co.uk/football/queensparkrangers/news/35146 ...including this: One note about the game: "Derby had 14 corners to QPR’s one and Dunne headed ten of them away by himself."
