Hey @hangthadj, your signature says you have been staring long and hard at the Crew Doomsday clock. Did you craft one for Bigsoccer as well? How much time do we have left? Days? Weeks? Months?
When the nuclear bomb comes, after the great flash of light, the Big Soccer Crew Forum in all it's grandeur and stupidity will be all that remains. We are eternal.
By the looks of it and through my years of experience posting on here, I would say he encapsulates his sentiment quite well. This place has a whole lot of historical discussions on Crew. Quite neat. Hit me this afternoon. Not much like it left on the internet when thinking about Crew fandom.
So now that our old cadaver in midfield has passed the 1,000 minute mark on the season, let's check in on the stats... 1,066 minutes. 1 goal (1 saved pk, but it was the rain's fault). 4 assits (2 assists from the run of play, 1 of them a secondary assist) 18 shots, 7 shots on goal. 13 fouls suffered. Now, we all know that Pipa's been pretty terrible this season in terms of goals and assists, in creating chances, and in creating any sense of excitement or joy for Crew fans. But let's talk about this fouls suffered piece. We've all bemoaned the Crew's pace of play and general inability to create chances. Opponents have only seen fit to slow down the man dictating our offense with a foul 13 times in 1066 minutes. Once every 82 minutes. This isn't terribly off the pace of his previous years (30 in 2018, 35 in 2017). But it does speak a bit to Pipa's style of play. If Pipa was running at or attacking defenders more, if he was taking risks and getting in dangerous offensive positions, if their was any element of unpredictability to his game we would see this number go up. Instead it's the safe pass. Cycle it back to Trapp. Play it wide to Robinho or Santos. Rinse. Repeat. ZZZzzzzzzzzzzzzz. Now Pipa apologists will come in and say that this is what he is asked to do in the system. And maybe there is some truth to that. But at the end of the day, 1000 minutes into the season we are seeing our attacking playmaker do very little attacking or playmaking. I anxiously look forward to whatever comes next. Because this is dreadful.
Pipa hasn’t broken a light jog so far. Big fan of him running toward the Colorado goal while a Rapids player started a counterattack and ran right past him without a single bit of pressure
Multiple players can be poor at one time. We’ve been sold a bundle of lies for years about Pipa’s professionalism and leadership. He’s been going through the motions for at least two years now, just collecting a paycheck. No heart. No balls. No soul. It’s killing this team.
It's been a decent career. But there is no denying Pipa's performance has declined dramatically the past few years. It would be foolish to expect him to return even to his current diminished levels at age 35 or 36 after such a serious injury and recovery. This realistically should be it for his Columbus Crew career. Thanks for the memories, and suggesting that Precourt would be killed if he tried his bullshit in Argentina. Best of luck in your recovery.
I'm going to drink myself into oblivion this afternoon. Someone create a cocktail in honor of our Argentine maestro and give it to me. Make it strong, please.
As much as I wanted to see the guy hang up his cleats, not being able to do it on his own terms absolutely sucks. I selfishly and sincerely hope that he stays with the franchise in some capacity, but I also realize that he'll probably move home and we'll never see him again.
Can we start a pool or something about how long it will take our fanbase to call for him to be the head coach? 3 years? 5?
