At least 30 members of Haiti's football family have been confirmed dead in the wake of last Tuesday's catastrophic earthquake.

President of the Haitian Football Federation (HFF), Dr Jean Bart, confirmed this to Caribbean Football Union (CFU) senior vice-president, Jamaican Captain Horace Burrell, who visited the ravaged Caribbean island on Sunday on a fact-finding mission at the request of FIFA vice-president Austin 'Jack' Warner

Quake-affected Haiti team trains in Texas
By Paul J. Weber, Associated Press Writer

NEW BRAUNFELS, Texas—After the Haiti footballers couldn’t eat another bite of chef-prepared pork or ice cream, and before going back to their cabins at a Texas resort, coach Jairo Rios asked for a favor.

Tents. As many as they could haul back to Haiti.

“I eat well here. I sleep well,” forward Charles Herold Jr. said in French, speaking through a translator. “But I cannot help but think of my friends and family who don’t have that. I can’t get that off my mind.”

Unable to practice in Port-au-Prince since the Jan. 12 earthquake that killed as many as 250,000 people, Haiti is in the United States until its May 5 friendly against Argentina. Players say a victory is badly needed to boost their country’s spirits, even though they are heavy underdogs against the World Cup-bound side.

The U.S. trip was organized by the nonprofit group San Antonio Sports, which is providing the training getaway for the devastated Haitian Football Federation. Players who’ve slept in the streets for the past three months have been feted with brisket and trips to shopping malls.

Players are already wrestling with the guilt of their relatively better fortunes. Forward Eliphene Cadet, 29, escaped from his house in Port-au-Prince after the roof caved on him and two children.

Leaving Haiti meant leaving his family in a tent in a field, near where his house once stood. Other players left their families in similar conditions.

“All the guys talk about it,” Cadet said. “There are still tremors now. That’s our biggest worry.”

The Haiti team has emerged from the earthquake luckier than some. All members of the national team survived, including those whose houses crumbled on top of them.

But 32 bodies were pulled from the rubble of the federation’s three-story headquarters, including coaches and top officials. Yves Jean-Bart, president of the federation, was among only a few who escaped alive.

Some homeless families are still encamped at the national stadium, and fields elsewhere remain blanketed by a canopy of makeshift tents and tarpaulins. Robert Jean-Bart, the son of Haiti’s federation president and who lives in Boston, said there was virtually nowhere in the country to play.

Jean-Bart said it was only last weekend that families began moving off the playing field in the stadium. He said the federation was trying to schedule a game in Port-au-Prince as early as August, but it will depend on how quickly the turf can be repaired.

Even before the quake, Haiti did not qualify for the World Cup. The team has not played an official game in nearly a year.

But players said facing Argentina will be as important to Haiti as a World Cup match.

“In Haiti, people say ask when we’re going to play Argentina. People think you’re going to do something good for the country,” said defender Peter Germain. “If we win against Argentina, the people are finally going to be happy. We can do something positive for this country.”

Nerves from the earthquake remain raw. On the bumpy flight last week to San Antonio, a bout of turbulence had the Haitians pressing their fingernails into the armrests.

“Even when the plane rumbles, it make them nervous,” said Jean Roland Dartiguenave, an assistant coach whose cell phone store in Haiti was destroyed. “It reminds them of the tremors.”

Haiti's list of Call-ups as follows:

GK: Pierre-Louis Wings (AS Mirebalais), Peterson Occenat (Aigle Noir AC), Jerome Frantzy (Aigle Noir)

DF: Raymond Ednerson (Baltimore SC), Pierre Richard Bruny (Don Bosco), Parnel Guerrier (Victory SC), Frantz Gilles (AS Cavaly), Jean Paulin (Aigle Noir AC), Mechack Jerome (SC Mirandela), Simson Exume (AS Mirebalais)

MF: Peter Germain (Baltimore SC), Vaniel Sirin (FC Tempête), Charles Hérold Junior (Tempête Saint-Marc), Joseph Guemsly Junior (SC Mirandela), Francois Christiano (Racing Club Haïtien),

FW: Éliphène Cadet (Tempête Saint-Marc), Kevins Fils Belfort (Tempête Saint-Marc), Jean-Baptiste Fritzon (Aigle Noir AC), Walson Augustin (Don Bosco), Jeremie Oscaldo (AS Mirebalais), Angelot Dieujuste (AS Carrefour)

FINALLY!! It tooke me about 4 hours of research to find these players and current teams!! :D

Francois Christiano is a Haitian Winger, and is said to be the Haitian Garrincha or Mazzola. he is very good phsically and technically and heads above the other or average Haitian player. he was last season's revelation and he is only 16!!!! he's probably 17, unless his birthday is after May...which would be crazy. He's the kid to look for in this game. he should be tucked in above Cadet as a 3 man.

idk who Frantzy plays for though =/

Christiano didn't travel with the team as his passport was not ready.

This list is the list for training camp in Texas but for the game it will be 18 players only who will travel to Argentina.

    Among them, Zéphyrin/ Rapid Menton/ Goalkeeper/ France

    James Marcelin/ Portland Timbers/ Midfielder/USA

    Jean Alexandre/ Real Salt Lake/ Midfielder/ USA

    Listner Pierre-louis/ OC Vannes/ Midfielder/ France

    Peterson Joseph/SC Braga/ Midfielder/ Portugal

    Judelin Aveska/ Independiente Rivadavia/ Defender/ Argentina

These are some of the players that their clubs accept to give us for the friendly, as it's not a Fifa game.

This list of 18 will travel to Miami tomorrow Saturday and fly to Argentina on Sunday.

Judelin Aveska is already in Argentina, he will travel from Mendoza to Cutral Co Monday to join the team.

Christiano Francois is a good player, but he is not the only one among the young players

Guemsly Joseph, Charles Herold Junior, Kerven Belfort Fils, Jerome Meschak.

Guemsly has offer from many clubs. Motagua of Honduras, one mexican club (I don't remember the name) and St Etienne in France.

Herold Junior has offer from Mineros Guayana of Venezuela and St Etienne of France

Meschak from Desportivo Chaves of Portugal and St Etienne in France.

We'll se in the future (after the World Cup in June) what's going to happen.

We just have an other young player , Jeff Louis, 18 years old , who moved to Le Mans reserve in France.

All those players are aged from 17 to 20.

Hervé Bazile, forward, Guingamp, french International U17 and U19 , agreed to play for the next Olympic team.

Kevin Pierre Lafrance, defender, Slavia Prague ( Tchek Republic)

Sony Nordé / Midfielder/ San Luis (Mexico)

Ferdinand, 23, a native of Haiti, signed with the Rhinos after his rookie season with the Baltimore Blast of the Major Indoor Soccer League (MISL) where he was named Rookie of the Year for the 2010 season.

I didn't know Motagua wanted Guemsly. all those players are from the U-17 Haitian World Cup squad. I remember Guemsly scored some impressive goals and showed a lot of potential.

right now Idk if its updated but Guemsley and Herold are both in Portugal.

Not Herold Junior but Guemsly and Meschak. They signed with Desportivo Chaves in Portugal 2nd but when they went there, Desportivo Chaves sent them on loan to SC Mirandela, a 4th division club.
They played 1 or 2 games and came back to Haiti. They didn't want to stay and play in 4th division and they say they were not happy there.
So since last summer they are in Haiti playing with their local club. But Desportivo Chaves wants them to come back but i don't know if themselves , they want to.
