A great moment followed up by Jelle Van Damme post game red card (he was really angry the Quakes won [emoji16]) and topped off with fireworks.
I think that was the beginning of the end for him as he either left or was cut from their squad mid season after that...
That game had nothing to do with his leaving, he went back to Belgium for personal reasons. "In life we are always faced with really difficult decisions," Van Damme's post read. "This is one of the most difficult decisions I've had to make as a player and a person. My family is the most important thing in my life and after two years away, I have decided to go back to Belgium so that I can spend time with my beautiful kids. "I am going home to be with my family, but in the process I am leaving the family that I have made here in LA. I want to thank the club for working with me to get me closer to my kids." The truth is there if you are willing to spend 20 seconds looking for it.
How about that goal vs. Seattle from our captain, Shea Salinas! He is now one of our leading scorers with three goals on the year.... Meanwhile our DP's are on the bench!
A few hours ago you were bemoaning Shea's inability to shoot the ball. And if Kip Colvey had been on the team last season, Shea would have been able to play midfield instead of left back.
He still can’t shoot with much power. Those two goals seemed like they were right in front of the goal. I have never seen him take long range shots. His goal last week was more like a chip and a lob. Then again, I can’t remember many Quakes players since 08 hitting those types of shots. Having said that, I’m happy for Shea!
Shea's first goal tonight was "right in front of the goal" only because he made a solo 40 yard dash down the wing leaving defenders in his wake. It was Huckerbyesque. And his goal last Saturday was a long range shot.
Better late than never but if Shea did this 7 years ago, he could have been a national team player.... Salinas hits career-high with four goals in 2019
I think he would have gotten a January 2013 Camp Cupcake call-up if Marquez hadn't broken his collarbone. 2008... who remembers rookie Shea Salinas missing a wide open goal in the home opener at Oakland Coliseum? From the web: "Salinas is currently tied with Zlatan Ibrahimovic (LA), Carlos Vela (LAFC) and Nani (ORL) for the most goals in Major League Soccer this calendar month (4)."
Oh yeah, he somehow popped it over the crossbar from literally 2 yards out... harder to miss than make... and we lost 0-1. But I remember he looked fast!
Oh, I should have known but my memory is awful sorry. I thought it might have been a joke but I'm also gullible.
Haha! I think that Salinas miss , his winner against the Gals and the 2012 season are the only things I seem to remember.
Wow. There's a 99.99% chance I was at that game and I have no recollection of that. But here's a "from the stands" Youtube video of it:
I was in the Ultras section to the left of this videographer holding onto Lew Wolff to make sure that he was not crushed in the avalanche of humanity which could be expected to descend to the railing after the score. Only PK awarded to the Quakes all season (2008), in the dying moments of the season finale, a fitting bookend to Shea's miss in Oakland on opening day in the Bay Area.
