I like reading that Dom calls him "technical." I think that's a big part of what we all like, He seems just about as fast as Francis. He seems fine with heading forward on attack when appropriate. All that's really left is how his defending against MLS level attackers in games that count.

I'm assuming that Paul Holocher had Kip on his Cal Poly team for a few years, and that was probably a big influence in the Quakes selecting him. This makes me feel cautiously optimistic about how the academy program may help the Quakes senior squad at some point. If Kip is playing in a way influenced by Holocher, and Holocher is a big Barcelona / learn to be comfortable with the ball at your feet / movement / possession guy, and a player who can play that style shows well on the senior team, we could hope to see more of this influence start to make its way to the senior team.

It may not matter that Kinnear doesn't really teach / emphasize this style. Hopefully at some point there will just be more guys who are more comfortable with the ball at their feet and good things could start to happen in the terms of the Quakes style of play.

Great signing! Hope he starts over Francis immediately. I don't care if he's "unproven." You only prove yourself after being given the opportunity. What we know is Francis is not the answer, and should not be starting - period. Let's go Kip!

I think I'd be fine with this too. Not so sure Dom will be that bold. But when Salinas is likely starting due to MPG being out, that's the exact right game to throw him in. Hopefully Dawkins gets the spot on the left sooner than later. And I'd like Colvey's first match to be paired with outside mid who at least knows what defense is, such as Salinas.

I'm glad Kinnear is publicly praising Colvey, that means he should at least be given a fair chance, even if it's not immediate...

    Total sleeper draft pick.

I have high expectations.... at least Dunivant level smarts and ability, but with more speed and verve in the attack.

The Force is strong in this one...

If LA tries to attack down his side, or leaves the left flank open for him, he may very well prove to be their Kiptonite.

My nephews played with Colvey at Cal Poly. They say hew is a great player. Let's just hope he translates it into the professional game!

Wondo scored as soon as Kip came on. I'll take it as superstition! Kip should be starting!

Kip played well, well enough I would have to say to further his argument he should start.

I almost wonder if Kinnear just wanted to see how dangerous Colorado was on the attack and thought Francis would have less nerves on defense.
