"NEWS: Earthquakes Hire Former AS Roma Executive Jesse Fioranelli as General Manager" (SJEarthquakes.com - Thursday, 1/5/17) GO SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES!!! -G
So this was the mystery option number 5. After reading the Quakes article I'm impressed. However with the track record of this organization its hard not to be skeptical. I do however have a tiny, tiny glimmer of hope, hope which will grow if/when this new GM sacks Dom for his disregard for younger attacking players with skill and soccer IQ.
It looks as though a key selling point is his experience as an agent. So what this job boils down to, at least for Kaval, is "can the new GM find/negotiate players for us?" And maybe Jesse can. My guess is that he will NOT fire Dom. That's not his operating scope, even if he has the authority to do so.
It looks like hes got more then that. He also seems to be heavily involved in the process side of things at Roma, and it seems like at Lazio and the Turkish club he was doing some direct game day analysis type stuff. Seems like a well rounded candidate actually. Definitely not a former player/coach type though, so likely isnt going to be too hands on with the day to day stuff. And Dom is probably here for this season at least. Fioranelli probably isnt going to start gutting anything from day one, but build up the supporting infrastructure first.

Finally something to post about that is on a positive slant. Now can we sign some damn players? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I didn't mean that he's been just a player agent -- obviously he's had other jobs -- but they seem to all be related to the skills cultivated in a player agent role, mostly pertaining to player analysis, assessment, and aquisition. This looks very promising to me, except the fact that Dom is staying. His role is to find the players that Dom needs, not to sack Dom.
"Fioranelli was most recently a member of the “Direzione Sportiva”, the Sporting Direction unit for AS Roma since July 2015, where he played an integral role in overseeing a comprehensive club management program – The Roma Way – in the areas of player scouting, match analysis, player-centric development and recruitment for the first team and youth system. Fioranelli was also responsible for further expanding Roma´s market intelligence and relationship network throughout Europe and Latin America with clubs, agents and federations, including player-development collaboration with Germany´s National Team ahead of Euro 2016." This already puts him head and shoulders ahead of our previous management. We have a guy with a proven track record of pursuing and developing relationships with other clubs, scouting, and all of the other aspects of management that were so obviously missing previously. Without any real reason to be -- I'm actually rather chuffed at this announcement.

While I can see how you came to this conclusion, I don't sure I agree with this assessment. I expect that he has the ability to fire Dom. However, baring a complete meltdown, I suspect Dom will have the season and pending results will have his contract renewed or not.
LOL. I had to look up "chuffed". Jesse does check a lot of the boxes that I was looking for in a GM. I'm also chuffed. It's a start. The next step is going to be how fast or slow he can move to get the team consistently competitive and showing some flair and commitment to attacking soccer. Did anyone notice the last sentence? - "Chris Leitch, the team’s interim general manager since August, will remain on staff as the technical director." So those Chris fan's, this is good news.
Count me in with the "chuffed" crowd. I am pleasantly surprised. He has experience in scouting, analytics, building international relationships, player contracts (agent), etc. Only slight reservation is that he doesn't have any experience in Latin America (though he may have been involved in some acquisitions of Latin American players).
