Nothing says we can't record a song or two at each of these tailgates. Say every band that plays does an altered version of a Barra chant get it recorded, put them altogether burn to CDR's print up some fancy sleeves cheaply and wallah. I'm under the impression the bands that do play will WANT to do a version of the chants.
We had Dale-Dale-O, O-le-le and La Barra Brava theme song ready to go. I guess we'll just break them out on unsuspecting audiences...
Excellent! We will have our studio space back up in about a month so we (the band I am in) can practically accomplish a recording of all the chants, I just think, as I am sure you do, that a mix of different bands doing them would be great. Not to mention having it done at a tailgate where more than just the band will be joining in. Having live music at the tailgates is a massive leap forward in "general experience" hopefully it can be pulled off on a somewhat regular (3-4 times a year) basis.
Local band 'the Pietasters' are playing at the 9:30 club on the 31st. Jedi Mind Tricks and Lady Sovereign are also at 9:30 on the 28th Can you book those to open for our boys? There used to be some huge bands that would come through LA and Santa Cruz under assumed names when I was a kid and play some killer free shows as warm up for a tour. I think that we could make "the Barra Presents" a must play event when you are in DC for the underground acts.
The Pietasters are local??? I had no idea they were from DC. How is Maggie Mae not a Barra drinking song, by the way? "She's a barmaid beauty in a tight black dress! Pours our beer and cleans our mess! Answers to the name of Maggie Mae, when we see her, what do we say? Maggie Mae! Bring us another beer, we need another beer to take away our troubles here!"
NICE! Man. I think the craziest show I've ever been to was back in Boulder at the Fox Theater on Halloween when the Bouncing Souls opened for the Pietasters. I would LOVE to see them. That show was the last time I saw them play, and that was back in '97 or '98.
We need to get them some DCU gear or some Barra gear for their show. Now we need Henry Rollins too. Another local hard ass.
To the best of my knowledge, The Pietasters are still broken up and aren't booking regularly. This would be their second show since "breaking up" and both will have been at the 9:30 club. Also, I don't have 9:30-level pull or sway with anybody except the occasional lucky local band that manages to get on those bills (The Twats, Alleged Bricks, The Goons [broken up], etc).
No worries. We don't even have a stage yet so I think any of those might be out of our reach right now. MHz spotlight is a show on local bands. We need an in there! They are also doing a show on the Pietasters. The shows air Friday nights.
Just go and scalp/swipe a ticket. Ive been to a mess of their shows and its never a bad time. Great band and a bunch of great guys too. A buddy of mine did a lot of promo photo and live shots for them. I was lucky enough to be let backstage and on stage myself to click a pile of pics. I got a great one of Todd Eckhardt singing "Spiderview" at a fundraiser at the Blackcat.
