Fuentes is on the US U-17 team that is playing two games each against Mexico and Costa Rica in Costa Rica this week. He played in today's 1-0 victory over Mexico. The Costa Rican Federation is streaming the Costa Rica matches on Facebook Live, next up vs. the US tomorrow at 9 AM PT. I have no idea if Fuentes will play on consecutive days. https://www.facebook.com/fedefutbol...690456048451/1983450668372412/?type=3&theater

The youngest-ever Homegrownsigning for San Jose, Gilbert has already made his professional debut with Reno 1868, as well as his Earthquakes debut in a friendly against Manchester United. His accomplishments have required sacrifice, though, from Gilbert and his family, as the young pro drives 70 miles each way to training daily, and his parents do everything they can to support their son's rise as a pro.
How great and convenient would it be to build an actual academy. Offering living space and education along with their soccer preparation. Not every kid will be going pro, so why not follow the European route (since our FO is so obsessed with that) and provide more services than soccer.
Tonight, a 16-year-old kid from Tracy will make his first-ever start for the club he grew up supporting. 🏠It doesn't get much better than this. #WeAreSanJose | @g_fuentess pic.twitter.com/0mrIhVLu8F— San Jose Earthquakes (@SJEarthquakes) October 13, 2018

Fuentes played as a 73rd minute substitute in the first game of the CONCACAF U-17 championship vs. Canada. The USA won 3-2, with all goals score before Fuentes entered. https://www.ussoccer.com/stories/20...comeback-win-canada-concacaf-u17-championship
The San Jose Earthquakes have signed two young members of the roster, midfielders Gilbert Fuentes and Eric Calvillo, to new multi-year contracts, the club announced on Thursday. https://www.mlssoccer.com/post/2019...n-gilbert-fuentes-eric-calvillo-new-contracts
I remember in pre-season Almeyda said he'd be getting minutes by mid-season. But that never really happened.
Oh well, maybe if the team had a few more 3 or 4 goal leads in the second half of games we would have seen him.

Good for them bad for the Quakes...in theory. We are a thin team regardless of what Danger says on broadcasts about how deep our roster is (total homer BS). We have so many "prospects" on the senior roster that might "hit" at some point and if they do we then lose them to XYZ national teams which basically leaves the team with no players. If these guys get called up for a FIFA window when the team is still playing MLS games we are f'd as we don't have replacements for 3 maybe 4 starters and 2 potential subs...
