Whenever Big-Team-Envy washes over me, which is never, I remember this video: The San Jose Earthquakes are, and will inevitably always be, the greatest Club in MLS. Atlanta fans don't even have a clue what they're missing.
blank can splurge on a side project, bc that 3.4 billionaire scammed the city of atlanta for nearly $700 million dollars to replace a 25 year old building.
I'm neither here nor there regarding their color scheme, but they currently have the second-best primary uniform in MLS (just behind the Montreal Impact), whereas the San Jose Earthquakes currently have the worst primary uniform in MLS (after, ironically enough, having the best primary uniform in MLS last season). Arthur Blank was wearing an Atlanta United pin next to his Falcons pin at the Super Bowl... And this weekend he was freezing his butt off in that blizzard in Minnesota, wearing an Atlanta United beanie... dude is a 74 year old billionaire, but unlike Robert Kraft he can probably name most of the players on his team, and won't just swoop in to watch MLS Cup.
You asked, "Have you ever had dinner with him? " I'm almost three thousand miles from Atlanta and have no connection to any Atlanta sports team, so Arthur Blank has no reason to have dinner with me, nor can I speak to whether he has had dinner with local MLS fans or not, since I don't follow the situation in Atlanta that closely... But it looks like he's giving post-game press conferences and is present when the team is signing 16 year old homegrowns, so clearly he's fairly involved... and of course his team has been around for all of two weeks at this point so there's still plenty of time for him to have dinner with fans if that is some sort of gold standard for owner involvement. But congrats to Lew Wolff for speaking so highly of the Quakes stadium after stating publicly that if it were up to him and not Fischer, they would have spent far less money on it. Edit: Personally I'd give more credit to the owner who paid for the stadium, rather than the one who showed up at a dinner... Despite Lewis Wolff getting all the ownership credit, John Fisher paid for Avaya stadium out of pocket alone
My point is that the San Jose Earthquakes have a Club spirit that Atlanta United cannot replicate. I've had many personal interactions from top to bottom of the organization over the years, and I'm not alone in that regard. Isn't going to happen that way in Atlanta. One of the benefits of being a small team that I wouldn't trade.
This may or may not be true, but citing Reddit, citing Grant Wahl, who cites Dom Kinnear as a source, does not make me trust its credibility. Remember, Kinnear is the guy who disagreed with me about the hold-up on Hyka's arrival, all the while Wahl was saying Muslim players are afraid to play here. I was right, and Kinnear and Wahl were wrong. I've got better sources. One of the benefits of having dinner with people in the know.
In perhaps the RICHEST region on Earth, with nearly 9 million folks in the greater Bay Area...shouldn't the Quakes be a BIG TEAM? Absolutely NO reason why the Quakes can't be amongst the Big Dogs of MLS (LA, NYC, Atlanta). Big Team status will come when they aren't playing second fiddle to ownership/the team president...
http://www.sfgate.com/bayarea/article/Oakland-A-s-to-lower-stadium-beer-prices-11001731.php Inspired by his Stanford heritage, David "Herbert Hoover" Kaval is offering the 2017 version of a "chicken in every pot" for Oakland A's fans. Cheaper beer. Not only are A's fans the best, they get to drink the "cheapest beer of any Bay Area stadium." Will the wonders ever cease?
What does that have to do with Atlanta's and San José's primary uniforms? GO SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES!!! -G
Oh it's not that bad. If the blue were a bit more noticeable on the jersey near the top I'd like it quite a bit more, though I agree that the 2015/2016 is better. But that awful Target logo on Minnesota's uniform makes it the worst for me, next to Chicago's for lack of creativity.
If all of the blue lines were solid, were more noticeable (as you said), went all the way up and wrapped all the way around the back, then that maybe might've at least salvaged it. Minnesota's primary uniform in particular is pretty bland, but at this point I'd even take simply bland over the crap San José currently has as its primary uniform. Instead, the Earthquakes went from the very top of the MLS primary uniform spectrum last season (as well as the previous two seasons, though the addition of the jersey sponsor last season put it over the top ) to the very bottom of the MLS primary uniform spectrum this season, all in the space of a year.
