My first thought would just be caveat emptor. If a player becomes ineligible after the draft but before the vote, my thought would be a team would have to drop him and select a new player that has not already been selected.

My personal thought was caveat emptor but the team would not be allowed to make another selection, as they could later scoop up someone who's become valuable with a free extra draft pick, and thus could game the system by taking Malik Tillman very late in the draft now as a "save for later" draft pick. Just my opinion though and fine with whatever the final decision is.

Yeah, that’s a good point. I wouldn’t be opposed to just making a team drop an ineligible player and not replacing them.

One other idea is that the player is replaced, and the new selection is made not by the team. Rather, by a moderator, and/or is generally-agreed-upon by the rest of the community as a player of roughly the same or lower caliber. I suppose it's too harsh to leave a team without an extra player.

Typically, doesn’t mean we can’t change, but the team is without a player.

It creates the sort of high risk/high reward when a team goes after an Efrain type... if he commits to the US then the team looks pretty but if he doesn’t then the team looks ugly.

Sounds good to me. It's the clearest way to handle the situation, and I definitely don't want that team to freely scoop up a valuable player who's broken out or has filed a switch from another federation by then.

One last player to add to the dual-nat eligible list is Edwin Lara. He's filed his one-time switch from Mexico, and that's confirmed by his first US U20 callup today under Tab Ramos. He's no longer a five-star prospect who was once rated as among the top '99 youth players in the world, but he's still a promising young left back who should be able to play/start in Liga MX before too long.

Buyer beware. You should lose the services of the player and not be able to replace him. It's a risk you should factor in when making the selection and make a projection how likely it is to occur.

Bjorn Maars got called up to Norway several months after last draft when someone took him in the earlier rounds. So that person should have lost a key starter, if there was a delayed draft tournament, which is one of the reasons why I think there should be.

The tournament in 6 months or whenever should be considered the more legitimate one because players have had chances to actually make moves in their career. As opposed to just being stuck on current perception which is far from reality.

Good points, Duke. Seems like the consensus is if a player is drafted and becomes ineligible, the team is not allowed to replace said player.

And I really like the idea of doing a summer tournament too, for the same reasons you brought up.

Because I don't want really want to see anyone lose a roster spot, which would not be fun: CONCACAF U17 Championship will likely be sometime in April-May, Euro U17 Championship qualification will begin in late March, and Euro U21 Championship will begin in mid-June (though IMO there's less risk for taking Siebatcheu). Buyer extremely beware.

Regarding Tandir, I haven't seen a direct statement saying he's provisionally cap-tied, but he has 14 caps with B&H at U19 level alone, in a span of just two years. Realistically, there's no way all of those 14 were friendlies during that time. Some of them were obviously for European qualification, making him provisionally cap-tied. And he was capped at U21 level too. A 6-foot-5 young-ish striker regularly scoring goals would make for a sneaky good late-round pick, but sadly we had to put him in the ineligible group.

Late to replying, but as you have already collectively decided, I believe this was a buyer-be-ware issue in the past. If the player is later cap-tied to another nation, tough luck. Lose the player and no replacement. It's not unlike an unfortunate injury. Many drafts ago my team lost Onyewu, when he was still one of the US's top players, within weeks of the completed draft due to his last major injury. It happens and is part of the risk.

    Have fun!

In a lot of the cases the departures would be more foreseeable than an injury that comes out of the blue like with Morris'. Taking Efrain Alvarez, you know, even if he's still eligible by evaluation days, he likely likely to never suit up for the U.S. IRL we'll never get value from him.

There's more real value in a Jesus Ferreira. He's on the verge of citizenship and attending US camps. Odds are he'll play for the U.S., and probably very soon in some capacity, while being a pro in a league we call a lot of senior players up from.

Maybe there could be a bonus round or two with a randomly generated order again exclusively dedicated to players who've never played for the U.S. or played for another nation this most recent camp, but still could realistically play for us in the near future. They only become eligible for usage on your team if they do.

FYI... sent a few days ago a PM but haven’t heard from @IndividualEleven if he wants to partner or not. I’m guessing he’s not interested.

There's a "picks" thread in the stickies. The selections should be posted there.

From my p.o.v. you could and should cast already. Theoretically people are going to be more flexible on the weekend and you seem ready. But that's not my call.
