Interesting question, do we expose him? He would be a great pickup for one year for either of the camps. We can only protect 12 players and must protect at least three foreigners and the GA players under 25 don't count. My 12 (and I may make some mistakes. GA/Home grown players exempt (Under 25): Lima Thompson Yueil Marcinkowski Haji Fuentes Cowell Akanyirige International Players (Must protect Three): Cummings Eriksson Espinoza Fierro Lopez Rios Judson Vega Of that list I would say: Espinoza, Eriksson, Vega Protected Players (12 total) 1. Espinoza (International) 2. Eriksson (International) 3. Vega (International) 4. Wondo 5. Vako 6. Jungwirth 7. Felipe 8. Rios (we have the slots and he showed enough to bring back) 9. Hoesen 10.Salinas 11. Judson (we have the slots and good depth) 12. Cummings That exposes. 1. Affolter 2. Bersano 3. Cavillo 4. Kashia 5. Lopez 6. Marie 7. Ockford 8. Partido 9. Tarbell I think the Quakes would carry on just fine if they lost one of them.
Many here are too harsh on Lopez and forget that he's 19 and he will make mistakes but he has upside and should be protected. I would protect Lopez and instead expose an older depth player like Rios or even a highly paid starter like Vako if his $1.5 million salary could be reinvested into two other good players to bring in.
I posted this in the looking forward thread some time ago. It is my prediction of what our FO will do, not my own priorities. [snip] "Lists will be released on the 16th, so we should know whether and Espinoza deal is still alive or dead at that point. I have not read this in any of the 2019 articles, but in previous years Generation Adidas and Homegrown players were exempt. In a player is graduating from GA status they would not be protected. Assuming those rules (and that Tarbel and Yueill will no longer be GA) here are what I predict our selections would be. It's actually hard to get to 12 crucial players, so I think the team will protect assets and Almeyda's priorities. Protected 1. Eriksson 2. Espinoza* 3. Fierro 4. Kashia 5. Jungwirth 6. Judson 7. Rios 8. Salinas 9. Vako 10. Vega 11. Wondo 12. Yueill* Exempt Akanyirige (HG) Cowell (HG) Fuentes (HG) Haji (GA) Lima (HG) Marcinkowski (HG) Thompson (HG) Exposed Hoesen* (Does not seem to be in MA's plans, but protect if Espinoza is not signed or Yueill is still GA) Cummings** (same as Hoesen if both scenarios happen) Affolter Bersono Calvillo Fillipe Lopez Marie Ockford Partida Tarbell This is not a very inspiring list, so we may get passed over. If Hoesen or Cumming are exposed then maybe. Someone might take a flyer on Tarbell an assess it was bad coaching."
I wouldn't care too much if these guys left... 1. Affolter 2. Bersano 3. Cavillo 4. Kashia 5. Lopez 6. Marie 7. Ockford 8. Partido 9. Tarbell
He's on a half-season loan to Nashville USL (still alive in the playoffs). There was speculation that this would presage a move to Nashville MLS, but no transaction has happened at this point.
I'd be a bit surprised if Nashville keeps him. They picked up Lasso from FC Cincinnati with an option to buy and all indications are they will do so. Doubt they keep two CB from the USL squad. Does anyone know of a list like this for other MLS teams? I'm curious who might be out there. Assume just have to wait until November 16, but thought I'd ask.
from the mls website San Jose Earthquakes The Quakes have some tough decisions to make. Carlos Fierro's salary could be a reason to leave him unprotected. Protected (predicted) Automatically Unprotected (predicted) Protected Eric Calvillo Jacob Akanyirige Francois Affolter Harold Cummings Gilbert Fuentes Matt Bersano Magnus Eriksson Siad Haji Luis Felipe Cristian Espinoza Nick Lima Carlos Fierro Marcos Lopez JT Marcinkowski Danny Hoesen Judson Emmanuel Ochoa Paul Marie Florian Jungwirth Tommy Thompson Jimmy Ockford Guram Kashia Casey Walls Kevin Partida Andres Rios Jackson Yueill Shea Salinas Vako Andrew Tarbell Daniel Vega Chris Wondolowski
Francois Affolter , Harold Cummings , Matt Bersano, Jimmy Ockford, and Emmanuel Ochoa will be protected?
https://www.mlssoccer.com/post/2019...e-available-2019-mls-expansion-draft-ben-baer Who the hell cares what Ben Baer thinks. I think it's unlikely that the Quakes protect young unproven players like Eric Calvillo and Marcos Lopez, and aging players like Guram Kashia and Daniel Vega... those players seem less likely to be taken than say Danny Hoesen. For the first time in many years, I'm genuinely worried that the Quakes *may* actually lose a player in the expansion draft... usually we have one of the shallowest rosters in all of MLS.
That would be sad both for Shea and us. He earned the right for protection in my opinion. I'd expose Magnus before Shea.
something wrong, i tried to cut and paste this but it loads differently than originally displayed so its very hard to read....I would suggest going to the mls website if you want the read the article I took it from https://www.mlssoccer.com/post/2019...e-available-2019-mls-expansion-draft-ben-baer
Yes, and I think an experienced, versatile player like Shea, who also doesn't have a relatively huge contract, would be an attractive addition to an expansion side.
Which is precisely why it's happened before (twice, in fact). That's why I think it would be hilarious (not in a good way) if we lost him that way...
