By the way, Fake News is a two-word concept. Too many emphasize the first word and ignore the meaning of the second. If it ain't news, it does not matter whether it is reported accurately, it's still not news. And insofar as it is nevertheless fraudulently packaged as news, it is Fake News.
Recent essay, in the September 2017 issue of The Atlantic, worth reading on perils of journalism in pursuit of clicks: ". . . As Silicon Valley has infiltrated the profession, journalism has come to unhealthily depend on the big tech companies, which now supply journalism with an enormous percentage of its audience—and, therefore, a big chunk of its revenue. "Dependence generates desperation—a mad, shameless chase to gain clicks through Facebook, a relentless effort to game Google’s algorithms. . . ." https://www.theatlantic.com/magazin...n-silicon-valley-took-over-journalism/534195/
Here's a sampling of the click-bait crap the Mercury News is reporting on its homepage this very afternoon: http://www.mercurynews.com/2017/08/...e-christopher-columbus-statue-from-city-hall/
There's an MLSsoccer interview of the lead singer that has a shorter version of the song and more goal footage. So i didn't realize this guy is an Ultra? Someone wanna provide more background? (Or maybe you guys did that already and I missed it?) Anyhow, this video makes me appreciate the song a lot more. Article is at http://www.mlssoccer.com/post/2017/...uals-quakes-release-never-say-die-music-video And video interview is at
The old firm casuals is a side project of Lars Frederiksen, of Rancid. I used to see these guys, along with Tim Armstrong at Buck Shaw, but don't know if he still goes to games. I THINK I saw him last Saturday, but I'm not sure...
Now I feel bad that I deleted the game immediately afterwards, so I never saw the halftime show (and was doing other things during HT).
Statues are artwork, and the desecration of art owing to disdain for its supposed message is the moral equivalent of burning books. The exquisite irony is lost on those engaged in the vandalism out of alleged antipathy to fascism. In any event, I expect the Crew will need to rebrand, along with District of Unmentionable United.
Per the Associated Press, republished by the San Francisco Chronicle among many other publications nationwide, Dave Kaval is still (present tense) president of the San Jose Earthquakes today, September 13, 2017. http://hosted.ap.org/dynamic/storie...K_CAOL-?SITE=AP&SECTION=HOME&TEMPLATE=DEFAULT http://www.sfgate.com/news/educatio...-near-Oakland-s-Lake-Merritt-for-12195264.php This is how Fake News breeds. One news agency makes stuff up and innumerable others pile on without any asking whether it or not it is true. Certainly, the San Francisco Chronicle should have an institutional awareness that Kaval is no longer president of the Quakes.
Who? Seriously -- if he wants to get some notoriety/notice he needs to have SOME KIND of presence either on the web, or on twitter or give some interviews or something?! He's pretty much been the invisible man since the announcement of his hiring in June...
I'm not saying he does. What I AM saying is that this team (from the virtually invisible John Fisher all the way down) has been remarkable in their apparent disdain for the fans. They rarely share ANYTHING of substance and operate totally in a void -- leaving us scratching our collective heads regarding the philosophy, strategy, and tactics behind the team.
