From the gallery, it appears that there were a number of adult women, but apparently none who made the cut. The chosen photos reflect a select subset of the fan population: young Latino or white, and male. I can understand how someone who isn't a member of an excluded class might not notice.
What you call the "chosen photos" are those that made today's announcement. My guess is that this a small subset of the total that will be used in the ongoing ad campaign. And my failure to notice had nothing to do with my supposedly being "someone who isn't a member of an excluded class." As you know, I'm in the old, gray-haired, overweight, yelling-at-clouds demographic, that does not appear to be adequately reflected, either. And, frankly, I wouldn't have noticed today's team PR blast at all if you had not commented adversely about it.
By the way, last night at the jersey unveiling, I purchased a 2XL authentic kit, and was talking with a 3XL guy who was disheartened that the kit doesn't come in his size. Those of you who are skinny may not be able to sympathize with the implicit bias against the full-figured. Just saying.
If you think it's easy to find stuff that fits when you are small and skinny, guess again. I notice the smallest women's size the Earthquakes carry is an S, which is too big (and also not authentic, because, you know, made for women) but fortunately a youth L may fit.
Definitely in the last three seasons, but not for the next 2-3 seasons at the least. GO SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES!!! -G
That's a nice little series about women in sports. Danielle Slaton does a good job as sideline reporter for the Quakes, and clearly knows the game. She is also right at home giving out MOTM and stuff with Danger and the crew at the end of the broadcasts. I hope she sticks around for a while. San Jose native too (Presentation High School).
It's probably a smart move for giving the Quakes more prominence in the Bay Area sports scene. I'm personally still smarting, though, at the loss of KLIV's San Jose-focused news format. KLIV had a real commitment to the local community. Bit of trivia: KLIV's owner, now well into his 90s, used to write speeches for President Dwight Eisenhower. Awhile back I gave him an "I Like Ike" button, the blue-black-and-white Opara version.
We're "deeply sardonic" here on the Quakes' BigSoccer board. https://www.mlssoccer.com/post/2017/03/14/castillo-its-not-too-early-hype-fire-dynamo-and-quakes
More inadvertent humor from MLS. Evidently you cannot take the pledge "to end discrimination" unless you are on a social media platform. "Connect your social media account to Take the Pledge and join MLS to end discrimination." http://www.sjearthquakes.com/dontcrosstheline Hey MLS: stop discriminating against those without social media.
I'm really impressed by Danielle Slaton. She did the commentary for all of the women's Olymic Soccer games in Rio. She could easily do the Quakes broadcast without Passarelli or Dangerfield, and if she did, it would be a much more intelligent broadcast.
Yeah, seems like she has it together, knows the game, and is "real". Like asking real questions that make sense, etc.
Her analysis of he games is far more on point and far more perceptive than Dangerfield's and Passarelli barely knows the game. I've just been really impressed with how smart and articulate she is.
She is bay area through and through too: born in SJ, Presentation High School, Santa Clara University.
