I might be alone, but im not too worried about it. I like the Black jersey, its still our colors.....and I imagine a flag inspired jersey might still be primarily yellow, just maybe with white and red accents, and the city emblem on the top of the back or something. It wont get worn as much as the black anyway. I suspect we will see the solid yellow again anyway maybe in a couple years or something. They just need to get people to buy something else.
To me, the banana kit is the Crew Primary kit. That is the one kit where the only thing that changes is the design - the color should always be yellow. The now Black with Yellow accents should be the secondary one that was dropped in place of this new "funky color" kit. The one constant should be that the Crew have a predominantly Yellow primary kit. In the world of MLS and most soccer, you see Yellow, you think Crew. That's the way it should be.
I don't see this being a big deal either as long as the new kit looks good. The following year we could update the black jersey to be a Milan style with black and gold stripes.
Better dead than .... oh, wait a minute. They need to stop messing with things. It's borderline ridiculous how often they change the jersey, just to make an extra buck. We're the only team with yellow and they want us to wear black in the summer? Really? A flag-inspired jersey would be a GREAT jersey for an alternate jersey for non-league matches (as if we play more than 2-3 per year.) The CBJ have it right. You have a home/away (or in soccer terms, primary/alternate) and then do something different for the alternate jersey. The CBJ's cannon logo ties into the whole Ohio Union theme without sacrificing what people know as the main jerseys.
And actually, I'd not mind the Cannon Jersey as the primary one. But both are quite a bit better than the original one.
Before freaking out everyone, the flag has yellow as one of the "primary" colors - so it will 95% likely have plenty of yellow on it. My guess is it is primarily white kit with Yellow & Red stripes, sash/hoops, or something. Why haven't there been any leaks? Other teams had leaks days & weeks in advance. That builds excitement. This could be cool or suck, doubtful anything in between.
Normally, I'm an optimist, but I wonder about this. Mostly because the city flag kinda sucks. But I'm a fan of the re-brand so far, so I'm holding out hope. I'll miss the banana kit, but the black kit became the defacto standard anyway, so, what the hell.
I don't really care as long as the kit looks good and red isn't prominent. The black kit is nicer looking than the yellow anyway.
I'm choosing to spend extra quality time with my loved ones this week before Precourt tramples one of the few remaining vestiges of Crew history. We sit around the fire with it's golden yellow flames, eating bananas, toasting lemoncello glasses, and tell stories of the glorious days of yore. I encourage other fans to identify what means most to them in this difficult week and hold it dear. Nothing is permanent. The only constant is change. Use what you have learned from your experiences this week as strength for the inevitable next jersey change, crest re-design, statue erection, money grab, that will take place in 36-60 months. Never forget.
It looks like a generic ripoff of the Mexican flag. I've only lived in Columbus for about 2 1/2 years but I've never noticed (or cared) about the city flag.
Who the hell cares!? Change is good. This team needed change or maybe you could not tell from the dwindling fan base and lack of corpprate sponsor beofre new ownership came on board. The old era was not working. The crest looked like it was for a U-10 kids team, attendance was one of the worst in the league and the team was not winning. The yellow kits will be back and then you will have nothing to complain about but most of you will find a reason regardless.
