Finished the season pretty strong (one of the few actually). The hope is, especially with the midfield looking as it does currently, is that he'll be able to replicate that kind of form and possibly even step it up and take it the next level.
McTominay is aiming high for himself this coming season. https://www.skysports.com/football/...to-be-manchester-uniteds-main-man-in-midfield
I am loving his progress. He ate Inter's midfield alive. He is growing in presence in midfield. Has the tools to keep progressing.
He's in the perfect situation to succeed. You can see his confidence growing, and it's mostly because of his profile. He has no real competition for the spot he's playing besides Matic, and he's already better than Matic. So, he's not receiving any real criticism when he makes mistakes. It's only growing his confidence, and thus his abilities.
Id love to be wrong on McT but he just seems like a squaddy at best or possibly a harrasser against better teams. I don't see his passing ability reaching a level of a proper DLP and he doesnt read the game well enough (yet) to be a traditional 6. But its great that our academy is starting to produce some guys that can contribute to the senior side again after a bit of a lull.
Agree - he needs to be focussing more on the #6 role as he doesnt have enough at this level in terms or creativity to be an #8. His height could be handy in this regard against certain EPL oppo. His energy and keeping the game simple by retaining possession are useful attributes in a #6. Matic is the low hanging fruit off the low bar he should be focussed on replacing ** can we mix metaphors in sentences too?
Apples and oranges ffs stick to the script and stop going off the tracks. ** We should stop cause this could go on for a while. Fcuking jitty always stirring the pot
Different subject - we have a very obvious.and well discussed / documented issue at CB. Like I said “certain EPL oppo” - if you need me to spell it out, some teams are overloaded with tall aerial threats and you need more than just the CBs to pitch in defending that. McT has the physical attributes to help - but like much of his game he needs to improve. Dont think anyone is saying he is the finished article.
Those epl teams were there last season. Last season we had height. We were second best most times with all that height. Our issue is not height.
<sigh> I didnt say our issue was height - stop making stuff up and arguing against it. Besides in general we have (many) issues plural not an issue All I said was; His height could be handy in this regard against certain EPL oppo. Which is a pretty uncontentious statement. Let me put it another way so you can invent stuff about that If McT (a tall dude) replaces Matic (a tall dude) at #6 (a DM position close to the CBs) that would be handy (ie convenient) against some (ie not all) EPL teams. Sometimes you guys make me laugh - is this SMS or something?
Maybe he becomes a 6 we need or not.. exactly, he becomes 6 or not, we have missed these handy academy graduates who can come in give all ..
It is not uncontentious because we already have height. It would be a good comment if our team was a bunch of midgets getting hammered by large physical players. Now if you want to suggest things will improve under ole I will listen but don't tell me otherwise his height is a positive o handy when we already have it.
rather play with a bunch of disciplined intelligent dwarfs rather than dumb oversized giants. I'm fine with it if we put in some work and improve.
Matic is one of the ‘already have height’ - so if McT replaced him then it clearly is ‘handy’. In case you missed it, we are signing the likes of James and AWB and Ole is ditching the likes of Lukaku in favour of Rash - so pace over power. So you are being picky, petty and pedantic - if that is how you get your kicks then have at it and keep going
Was this height handy with the team last season? No so stop citing it in a positive way. And yes I am picky pedantic and petty but also right.
