I will be in Kyoto late this week (march 17) . My first time in Japan. I looked at the J League schedule and saw that the closest game I can make for this weekend is Gamba Osaka vs. Oita. If I am correct, I can take a train directly from Kyoto to Expo '70 (Gamba's stadium). I have to return to Kyoto that evening, after the game. Do the trains run from the stadium to Kyoto after the games? I am having difficutly finding train information in English. Also, any advice on getting tickets or section to sit at Expo 70? thank you...very excited!
Re: Gamba Osaka question/help You can't go to Banpaku Stadium directly from Kyoto by train. Transfer to a bus, or a monorail, or 30 min walk is needed. I think "Kyoto station-- JR Tokaido honsen(Tokaido main line, aka Kyoto sen. 20min&210yen) -->Ibaraki station-- shuttle bus(10~20min+210yen) or 30min walk -->Minami-Kasugaoka-Nishi station-- 2min walk -->Banpaku Stadium", may be the easiest, fastest and cheepest way for you. There's a bus terminal outside of the nishiguchi(west exit) of JR Ibaraki station and you will be in trouble which bus to ride. The fourth section(Yonban noriba) is correct but still there are several lines at the fourth. I guess you'd better ask someone about it there. There will definitely be some Gamba supporters around 17:00-18:00. West exit of Ibaraki station http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/c/c6/JR-West_Ibaraki_Station_001._JPN.jpg Don't worry. The game will be finished at around 20:50, and the last train from Ibaraki to Kyoto will start Ibaraki at around am00:30. As for ticket, your hotel clerk will help you. As for section, I recommend SB(S-backstand) because 1)SB is the cheepest for neutral spectator/not-a-core supporter people, and 2)more expensive seats have no particular incentives . SB as advance ticket = ¥2,500. Re: Gamba Osaka question/help Shows how much you know about football What's happened to the Japan boards
Re: Gamba Osaka question/help Infact thats the single most ridiculous statement i've ever heard in my life
Re: Gamba Osaka question/help HAHAHAHA! They are the Champions, how can their quality very low????? Thats really ridiculous! I agree with you gamba
Re: Gamba Osaka question/help I know it's too late. But... We, Gamba supporters, are making a club infomation site in English (include stadium map). Please check the URL http://wikiwiki.jp/asa/?FrontPage
Gamba Osaka's disgracefull statistic I have uncovered an unholy statistic people. I was looking through all of Gamba's results in the J League this season, the 2005 championship winning season and 2004. I knew Gamba were prone to conceding goals but never did i imagine this. Gamba have not had a clean sheet since September 3rd 2005 when we beat Verdy 1-0 away from home And before that Oita Trinita 0-2 Gamba away from home on July 13th. They are the only clean sheets we have had in a year and a half. Now into the 2004 season August 29th -0-1 Gamba , Away June 16th - Cerezo Osaka 0-1 Gamba Osaka. Away May 5th Kashiwa Reysol 0-2 Gamba, Away An even more shocking statistic for you. Gamba Osaka have not had a clean sheet at home since 3rd of April 2004. 3rd of April 2004, Gamba 4-0 spulse at home And before that 20th march 1-0 sanfrecce at home We have not kept a clean sheet in the league for 7 months and we have not kept a clean sheet in the league at home for 24 MONTHS!!! 2 YEARS!! 7 clean sheets in 2 and a half seasons
Re: Gamba Osaka's disgracefull statistic Also just so people don't sit there and think Gamba are a rubbish team because of this because that would be ridiculous. the reson we one the title last year was because we had one of the most potent attacking forces a world football scoring 82 goals in 34 games, and we've continued that this year scoring 17 in 6 and the 15-0 demlition of Da Nang
Re: Gamba Osaka's disgracefull statistic Gamba 1-0 Kashima Antlers 8th of April 2006 First time we've kept a clean sheet at home since the 3rd April 2004
Re: Gamba Osaka's disgracefull statistic and was the first Gamba game I attended. I guess I am good luck.
Re: Gamba Osaka's disgracefull statistic Yeah i know, i'm only talking J League though, we've probably had a few clean sheets in the cup comps aswell
Re: Gamba Osaka's disgracefull statistic gamba beat fc tokyo to extend their winning streak to 6 and reign on top in the league. absolutely the greatest team of the entire universe.....
Re: Gamba Osaka's disgracefull statistic Gamba won that game in a late penalty. Could have gone either way.
The Vissel Kobe Thread We will be taking over the world soon enough But serously look at the teams we've just overcame in a row Shimizu, Antlers, Yokohama and FC Tokyo, We have been outstanding to say the least
Re: Gamba Osaka's disgracefull statistic Don't worry Antlers will beat the hell out of both Gamba and Reds in a long run.
How popular is Gamba Osaka compared to Urawa Reds in Japan? Osaka is known for the second largest city in Japan after Tokyo. But when I watched the AFC Champions League final, their stadium was small and the attendance figure isn't good for a J-League club. Gamba Osaka aren't that popular in Japan (or even in Osaka)?
Re: How popular is Gamba Osaka compared to Urawa Reds in Japan? Unfortunately, Gamba aren't as well supported as a lot of other top J1 clubs. This is mainly due to the fact that a lot of the sports fans in Osaka prefer to watch baseball (such as Hanshin Tigers) but also because Gamba are based just outside Osaka City in Suita; Cerezo Osaka, who are based in Osaka City seem to be more popular, though they are in J2 and don't draw big crowds often any more as a result. Hopefully, in the future Gamba will start to draw more fans as a result of their recent success. The club has plans to build a much larger stadium (over double the size of Banpaku), which is specifically designed for football.
Re: How popular is Gamba Osaka compared to Urawa Reds in Japan? Cerezo is indeed popular, even though most fans wouldn't know that they have won 4 league titles (3 more than Gamba, though all in the old JSL days), and the presence of the Tigers and the Kintetsu (or whatever their company name is now) Buffaloes draws away a lot of fans. Notice how Vissel Kobe lacks popularity as well (partially because it is a mediocre club) and fans are not interested in a derby with Banditonce that the latter had to move to Kakogawa.
Re: How popular is Gamba Osaka compared to Urawa Reds in Japan? Good comparison for fan base: Roma & Lazzio to Cerezo & Gamba
