A fairly lame final (as is often the case), but the United States were clearly the better team on the field.

Congratulations to the US and, especially, to Megan Rapinoe.

The Dutch showed very little today.

The US v. England semi-final was better.

What is about fighting over the ball after a goal, or, especially a penalty?

The Red Bulls v. Atlanta game is on. A penalty is called. Martinez scores on Robles and turns around to grab the ball. Martinez starts pushing and shoving with Robles and a Red Bulls defender.

What is that all about? Grow up, you little bitches.

Edit: it has been quite a second half, penalty, two goals in stoppage time (Martinez and Wright-Phillips), a lot of pushing and shoving and passion. I would say there has been "fire" but we don't see this much in Chicago.

It's in the rules that the team that was scored against has to restart the game by taking a kick-off. Depending on who has time on their side they might try to speed up that process by taking the ball to the kick-off spot yourself or not.

Of course, but you know well that has nothing to do with the fight over the ball.

USA-MEX. Altidore misses the easiest chance of the night and now USA losing after a pretty J Dos Santos goal.

Oh there are mind games involved as well but the actual cause is the mentioned rule

I didn't realize the game was at soldier Field. I had completely forgotten that I actually enjoyed watching soccer because I've only been paying attention to the Fire games (barely). I wish I would have went. I think them making weed legal in Illinois is a conspiracy to keep Pauno and Hauptman employed

Nonsense. It is about being childish and selfish.

If the "actual cause" was the rule you mention (Rule 7 of the Laws Rules of the Game), then the scoring team would not be able to enter the goal to grab the ball. There would simply be a rule that clarifies who is authorized to retrieve the ball.

The scored upon team is under no obligation to retrieve the ball at all. It is for the official to restart the game.

Rule 7 of the FIFA Laws of the Game does not state which team is retrieve the ball.

Haven't watched any soccer at all since the US got pwned in the gold cup, but the Tour de France has been excellent so far. 10 different stage winners in 10 days, surprises everywhere but the Green Jersey, and an only incrementally more senile Phil Ligget. Couldn't have imagined a better lead in to the first rest day.

Also, the final of Wimbledon was one of the best matches ever played. Spectacular.

I have this long time buddy who is a chemist and now works for Evonik which is the largest German based chemical company. He doesn't know a damn thing about Fussbol but Evonik is the shirt sponsor of Dortmund BVB and he scored me a free ticket for tonights Liverpool v Dortmund exhibition in South Bend, Indiana (Notre Dame Stadium). As he said to me, "I don't know anyone else into this 'crap' so I thought I'd ask you if you want to go...." So that's kinda groovy. Can anyone recommend a quality dive bar where we can get our pre game buzz on? I have never been to South Bend and my research has me leaning towards McCormick's Coney Island bar. I'm hoping Dortmund will play this Brandt kid they picked up from Bayer Leverkusen so I can see him do his thing. Mostly these International friendlies are a waste of time but hey...free ticket and a reason to drink with my pal. Why not?
