    Re: The Expansion Draft Thread

He has a huge guaranteed salary, just behind Beckham and Blanco. Even GBS probably won't be able to get close to what Gallardo has guaranteed. Has he shown enough at this point to deserve it? I don't think so, even in the time period he did play; and then there's the prospect of injury downtime.

I'm not saying DC is trying to get rid of him -- just that they probably feel it's safe to expose him.

And as an aside, it's not clear that Seattle can draft a DP. They already have Ljungberg as their DP. Can Seattle draft and then trade a DP without having a free DP slot? For an instant, he'd be on their roster, and they wouldn't have a DP slot for him. With MLS Calvinball anything is possible, of course; but it may be that they *can't*. (then why protect a DP? A no-trade clause would require protection regardless by rule.)

11 teams to go. Saragosa is a bit of a surprise over Sikora.

Dallas may be one of my favorites to escape unscathed, along with the Gals, of course.

Not really. Sikora got injured too quickly to show much, and Hyndman has a man-crush on Saragosa.

I think Aaron Pitchkolan may get selected. Serviceable center-back who doesn't cost much. If they are looking to build from this draft, they could do much worse.

Sikora's more expensive and coming off an injury. Saragosa also has more trade value.

I'm thinking Burse has a good shot of a "draft and trade" deal. LA and Chivas should both be looking for a goalkeeper, and Burse has shown well in limited playing time.

    Marinelli being protected is surprising.

At what point to teams realize Jovan is no good? This is his 3rd/4th team, meaning second go round with LA, right? And has what 5 or 6 goals the last 3 years? This guy has lived off his Euro rep for far too long.

And Saragosa wasn't kept because he has more trade value, he was kept because Schellas loves the guy, regardless of what he contributes. He is someone I think will stick around Dallas for as long as he wants because he plays simple, tough defense which plays right into the coaches hands.

Regarding Burse, if I am Seattle's GM, I might take him and trade him to Houston for one or two of their field players if they are interested.

I can't believe that RSL kept Rimando protected and left Sturgis exposed.

Protecting Rimando was smart, he was gone for sure otherwise. The only RSL move that surprises me is Russell over Sturgis.

Why? Sturgis is made of freakin' glass, while Rimando has had a stellar season at RSL. Hell, I'm surprised RSL held onto Sturgis as long as they did with all the injuries he's had.

Developmental international the Wizards signed through an open tryout. Started the Wizards last 6 games (including playoffs), scored one goal. Was in Aberdeen's youth system before coming to the US and playing college ball at Graceland.

Protected due to rules regarding the protection of international players.

I look forward to all the uneducated people wondering why Guy-Roland Kpene (or Tony Caig) is protected later today.

Actually with his play late in the season I think he likely would have been protected regardless.

Kirovski might have been signed by LA solely for our stupid match in Austrailia next month. At least that is the hope I am clinging to. Can't imagine anyone would think he was the answer to anything much less the problems of this LA team.

No need to get nasty about it.

A list of players KC exposed would clarify matters, but I still had no idea who the heck the guy was. I imagine some fans are saying the exact same thing about Khumalo and Janicki for DC.

Pretty much because you have Seitz and he has to be ready now, no? Granted that might be an LA type move with Cannon shipped out.

Rimando has had a great year, I agree. But I would rather have more talented, cheaper youngster who is a field player. Plus Seattle already has Keller, so I would run the risk of a draft and trade to LA/Chivas. Just my take. I understand the injury issue.

I didn't realize how bad LA's roster really was. Randolph is the only guy I would take from them.

Rumors are Seitz may be headed out in a trade or for a trial in Europe. Either way, I wouldn't be so sure that he'll even be available as a backup for RSL next year let alone a starter.
