How many cities have just a great symbol? It is truly iconic. Such an opportunity that should be promoted!
Yes...as some of you know I am a Pittsburgh transplant (21 years in Pgh and now 29 years in Chicago) but all Pgh teams (except oddly the Riverhounds USL pro) are black and gold because of the Pgh flag colors. It IS a total layup and the Redstars have figured it out straight outta the gate. I mean even a CF intertwined with the decorative script found on a fire engine with a single red star would be better. Some font like this.
Just spitballing but going back and remembering old Sandalow articles about the rebrand, one of Nelson's priorities for a new crest was that it clearly indicates "Soccer Club" on the crest. The fact that we got an "FC" on this looks like a clear sign to me that the decision on this came from above him. Not everything is Nelson's fault, guys.
even better -- go all in on the partnership with the local women's team, who happen to have the best female player in the world and a good looking brand
Assuming you are talking about Sam Kerr, we no longer have her. She just signed with Chelsea. But they should definitely partner with the Red Stars because they have some amazing logos and jerseys. Whoever is designing them for the club really seems to get the city. When the idea of a name change first came up I thought they should just buy the Red Stars and use their name and designs. It would have pissed people off it changed from the Fire, but a ton of stuff based around the flag seemed like it would ease the pain.
What the FOOK is this? How are they this bad at everything? HOW? An intro to design student could come up with something better.
I'm going to wait until it's officially announced to blow a gasket. This just seems to have way too many issues with it to get past multiple veto points in the process. It doesn't invoke the Fire or the city of Chicago and it doesn't say soccer or even football on it. I get that the club didn't want to be confused with the fire department and TV show anymore, but instead wanted it to scream SOCCER. This fails at the one thing they have publicly stated was required.
I gave myself 90 seconds in MS Paint to design a better badge. It was too hard to find a badge shape, so I went with the down arrow. It just felt right. I like mine better.
Why do the Fire need a new badge? I do not see anything wrong with it. Not that it cannot be updated or otherwise changed, but I just don't see it as a priority at this point.
as my brother just said, if this is the new brand design then we'll just wear Red Stars gear to the games
Nelson has enough things to be complained about on his record. We don't just have to make up new stuff. I swear a not insignificant amount of this fanbase has a level of vitriol toward NRod and the FO that's every bit as irrational as whatever you'd call Don doing his usual Don things. We could announce that we've poached Garth Lagerwey from Seattle next week and people would still bitch it's not Peter Wilt Well that, or he was able to read the room after the first trial balloon was released.
Which would seem like a sign that SSS #2 is still in his long-term plans. Two soccer teams at NSF would a tough sell with the Park District/SMG (or whatever they're called now).
Wait, really? Is he trying to buy Arnim Whisler out completely or just have an ownership stake in the team? I only ask because it seems like Whisler is actually a pretty good owner, though maybe he doesn't have the money to compete with Euro clubs for talent as the Red Stars are still losing money.
He has contradicted himself on what a rebrand would be. We don’t have to make up stories about his changing faces. He is very public about it. And to be clear, my feelings on Nelson are very rational. I’ll take that bet.
