At the moment, we're leading but the more points we get, the better the result will look like. Come on, German teams! We haven't been so close to gaining our spot back since a couple of years.

The actual ranking (or really the next one, because it's not officially existing until the end of the season) decides the number of berths given away in the next Bundesliga season (10/11), for the CL 11/12. The ranking 2011, where we lead, is for the CL 12/13. The 1-year-delay is so that we know how many teams will be sent into the CL at the beginning of the domestic season. Would be kind of weird if Hamburg finished 4th, failing to qualify for CL, until Bayern wins the CL a week later, and got us an additional berth

I don't like predictions regarding Werder, they're very hard to predict. On one day, they beat Twente 4:0 and on the other day they lose 0:3. My predicition: - Bayern, HSV, Wolfsburg go through - Hertha, Stuttgart fail - Bremen whatever... Milan, Inter and Fiorentina will fail. Roma, Juve will go through. Problem for Italy: CL gives more points. Bayern will get extra points for getting to the next round. I don't think that the English football "suits" the Italian one. But we'll see. Everything is possible The most important game is Bayern-Fiorentina along with the hope that Chelsea and United make sure that neither Inter nor Milan reach the next round.

If we can just get all 3 Italian teams out of the CL and not have Roma/Juve make a long Europa run we will be set for 2011/2012. For us to snatch the 4th spot for next year it is going to take something pretty special I think. Bayern could make Semi's or better. Not to get too far ahead of ourselves here but you could be looking at a quarter finals CL of: Lyon, Bordeaux, Porto, Sevilla. All of which would be manageable draws and then probably the nasty Chelsea, Man Utd and Barca loitering around as quarter final land mines. For a long Europa Cup run I'm hinging it on Hamburg, and maybe Bremen if they can pull their inconsistent heads out of their asses (I'm not holding my breath though). Wolfsburg too has potential, I think those players will be way more excited for the Europe matches than the Bundesliga where they are almost a certainty to finish in mid table "nobody cares" land.

Won't be easy for Bremen and Wolfsburg in the next round though, harder than this round. Juve are facing an in form Fulham in the next round as well. I do think Inter will get past Chelsea though.

Re: The "we want our 4th Champions League spot back" Thread Europa League fixtures should be interesting. I think HSV will beat Anderlecht by the slimmest of margins, talking on PKs. Wolfsburg has probably the second toughest opponent in my opinion so I think they are in trouble. They must get a result in the first leg though. Rubin are a well organized team. Valencia and Bremen will be a great matchup! Two evenly matched teams in my opinion and both can be described as a mixed bag really since both teams are so inconsistent. I expect lots of goals in that fixture.
Re: The "we want our 4th Champions League spot back" Thread Even if we lose to Italy by a few points this season we will still be first because the last year of this table falls off(05/06) and that is the year when Italy beat us 15 points to 10 points, so we are automatically in an advatage next year! Just need to keep up like this and we will have that spot!

But it still is possible that we decide at the end of next season, which 4 teams will play in the Champions League in the season 2011/2012. And it would be cool if we manage to get it back that early. But even if not, we're already leading the 2012/2013 ranking and will get the spot then.
