LB for most part with BvB, Germany and Fiorentina. He ran up and down the left flank like it was nobodies business...
Jörg Heinrich played when the preferred tactical system in Germany was 3-5-2. Heinrich was mostly utilised as a left-sided wing back who played more upfront as part of a 5-man midfield than a current left back would. At least that's how I remember it. Admittedly the late-1990s was the time I began to lose interest in current football and tried to forget most of what went on at that time so I could be wrong. Ziege also deteriorated when he went to Italy in 1997.

World Soccer published a great article on former German World Cup Great Horst Szymaniak: http://www.worldsoccer.com/blogs/profile-of-horst-szymaniak-one-of-germanys-best-players Great to see him getting the recognition in the English soccer world two years after he passed away. Even greater is that this fine piece was written by BigSoccer member Comme.
Why the Bundesliga beats the Premier League’s house of cards http://soccerlens.com/why-the-bundes...f-cards/23169/ I remember a lovely article in 2009 by an English fan who became a Dortmund supporter because travelling to Germany from England watching a match, and returning home that evening was cheaper and more fun (actual stands, not mandatory seats! beer!) than attending a Fulham match. If Fulham was too expensive, the mind reels at what other London clubs like Arsenal or Chelsea charge for a ticket.... I recommend ALL U.S. fans who travel to Germany try to attend a match somewhere! (Bayern is the only place you probably WON'T be able to get in the door due to a 100% sellout, but 1860 Munich plays at the Allianz too.) Hell, if anyone reading this is ever anywhere near Stuttgart, PM me, and I'll walk you through the whole process in person. You'll only need about 50 bucks to have an awesome time! (a ticket, and a belly full of wurst and beer!)

French interview with Rafa Benitez. http://fr.sports.yahoo.com/12092011/70/ligue-des-champions-benitez-le-niveau-grimpe-en-france.html Do you feel the Bundesliga is underrated? R. B. : Not by me. For me it's definitely a step above the Seria A. (He gestures) 1. Premier League and La Liga. Behind that the Bundesliga and even below Seria A. Bundesliga matches are so intense. I'll analyze all this in more detail but one can feel a real football atmosphere in Germany, a constant desire to score goals and strong competition between the clubs.
http://www.thefootballramble.com/blog/entry/blizzard-exclusive-barry-davies Interview with long-time BBC commentator Barry Davies (in action between 1969 and 2004). He talks about the Top 3 teams during his time as a commentator. Germany plays a prominent role!
"The Other 87" analyses Bayern 1974-76 and wonders which modern players would be suitable to play in that formation. http://theother87.com/2011/12/07/formation-renovation-bayern-1974-1976/
Some people might have noticed the recent, rather signifcant, increase in reports on serious violence arround Bundesliga games. Kicker now even has devoted an own section on their website for those reports. I'm somewhat puzzled as to why there seems so much of this recently: - has there been a real increase in violence? - or has violence just been underreported before? - or is it some kind of media panic/campaign? From the last few days: "Numerous people" injured in attack on Mainz fans, Kaiserslautern fans suspected: http://www.kicker.de/news/fussball/...ff-auf-mainz-fans---zahlreiche-verletzte.html Frankfurt fans attack Dresden fans after game: http://www.kicker.de/news/fussball/...178/artikel_ausschreitungen-in-frankfurt.html Hansa fans attack bus with Eintracht Frankfurt fans, try to push them off the highway: http://www.kicker.de/news/fussball/...kel_hansa-fans_neue-dimension-der-gewalt.html Köln fans attack Gladbach fans at rest stop, guns and drugs found in crackdown on Köln fan club: http://www.kicker.de/news/fussball/...el_fc-straft-ultra-gruppe-wilde-horde-ab.html http://www.kicker.de/news/fussball/...artikel_wilde-horde-kein-fc-fanclub-mehr.html
