He's been on the pitch a fair amount with DCUnited and didn't embarrass himself at all. With Farfan injured I thought he might be in the 18 in Jersey.

Anthony Grant scored in the 74th minute and his defensive mates hung on desperately throughout a long and perilous second half to give the Richmond Kickers a keepsake 2-0 victory over Swansea City AFC of the English Premier League on Saturday night at City Stadium.

 

Seems like a great experience, particularly for Durkin, with Swansea attacking all game and the defense really having to make sure they don't switch off at any point.

 

D.C. United planning to launch USL team in 2018

D.C. United has submitted an application to the United Soccer League to own and operate a secondary squad in the Washington area starting in 2018, the Insider has learned.

United has begun a preliminary search for a playing venue, with Maryland SoccerPlex in Boyds and the University of Maryland’s Ludwig Field under consideration.

The team has also spoken with officials at George Mason University about building a 5,000-seat stadium as the centerpiece of a permanent training facility for United’s senior team, USL squad and youth academy. Mason’s soccer teams would use the stadium and practice fields, as well.

No offense to Richmond... but I can't wait until the team is able to close this thread for us.

 

This should be really huge in 4-5 years. Someone in the FO has some soccer brains.

 

Particularly if the team is made up of locals, primarily, it could be a nice little cash cow. All the youth players would have something a little more realistic to aspire to, and their parents would have something a little more affordable to attend. 'Jimmy played with so and so when he was 8, let's go watch him.' times a thousand.

 

If that team could generate one player a year to be up on the senior squad, and if the Academy could do the same, it would be a cash cow.

 

I trust the team will be known as U2.

 

They will be even better than the real thing.
