Watched the highlights. Laca was good. Alexis is easily Arsenal's best player. Completely different level. What a disaster that he is leaving. The midfield, even with 3 middies, was awful in the first half Should have been 1-0 down and the same old story. So yeah - climbing up the table but I don't think much is fixed
Ozil came on late when we didn't need to push for a lead. I'm not worried. Wenger was quoted earlier about how Ramsey's been better at playing better positionally by staying closer to Xhaka. Today he didn't even have to do that. He has been better. I don't think it has to do with Ozil. Ozil's first season, he and Aaron were dangerous together. I wish they'd figure that back out.
I think a big part of the issue is Wenger's tactics. He wants Ramsey to push into the box. But if he does that, someone else has to cover.
<darkness descends> I just think it's all a bit beside the point. The inherent managerial and ownership problems at this club transcend any tactical issues. It was clearly a midfield three last night, something many of us have wanted to see, and yet there wasn't much of a difference in terms of performance. We're so far beyond questions of on-field personnel and tactics at this club. Yeah, I'm kind of downbeat about a 2-0 win.
Ozil had a very good 18 months up until Christmas 2017. A record assist season and then heavy goal scoring for the first half of he 16/17 season. But then with a combo of injury and Wengers tactical changes he rather went off the boil. We've discussed here before the stats bomb analysis on why that was. And we haven't seen him much this season yet though he was excellent in the first 2 games. In the last year Sanchez has been sensational - which is of course why City offered so much money for a guy with 1 year on his contract. So I don't think it is at all controversial to say Sanchez is Arsenal's best player right now.
