Monreal called offside. What's the rule there? If you're off the pitch can you be onside? I'm guessing no.
We seem to be playing Ozil as CF. But he looks totally gassed. As in that one-on-one with their keeper.
I'll take 1 point. A good game for the neutrals, as they say. We showed much more hunger to win at the end than Citeh did, led as usual by Sanchez. Ozil had a much better 2nd half. Theo in the first half. Monreal with one of his best games in a while. Gabriel did better than I thought he might. We finished with 11 men (although the ref was generous to Coquelin) Onward p.s. Any "fans" who want to give up on this team because we've plummeted down the table, are free to leave.
I'll take it. We looked like a team for most of the game. This also gives me hope that we can put City away at Wembley in a few weeks.
Honestly though, I though the Xhaka-Coquelin midfield worked fairly well. There were some hairy moments between the two of them, and both were lucky to not be sent off, but they brought some steel and tenacity to the play today. On top of that, if Xhaka can get a run and not pick up any more suspensions, he can absolutely the base of our next-gen midfield. His ability to ping a ball with either foot is something I haven't seen on an Arsenal player in a few years. I'm convinced he could play the pivot/transition role really well for this team. However, it's a big ask if he can't keep his discipline under check. Coq gave us glimpses of what he used to do today, but it remains to be seen if he can keep any sort of consistency. It honestly seems like those two knee injuries screwed with him both physically and mentally. I think Xhaka and Coq is redundant, but against teams that press it might be useful if they can both find form. As someone said early, Coq is the guy you bring in to shore up a game, he's not an Arsenal quality starter. Finally, if Ozil gets some match fitness under his belt I think some of those absolutley stupid ********ing mistakes iron themselves out. Meh result, but overall I'm really pleased. The boys had some fight, especially when it would have been easy for them to fold as soon as that Sane goal goes in.
Forgot to add, Ospina should be the #1 until the end of the season. Cech is past it. Ospina was calm, cool, and collected today. Almost always wins his 1v1's.
Umm... that would be you. And it's West Ham in 3 days, so theoretically that might just give you a bit of belief pre-match. P.s. Pray for a speedy recovery for Kos.
Trouble is the team has now taken only 4 from the last 18 points so this is another critical 2 points dropped in the top 4 race I realise this run includes Liverpool, Chelsea and City - but Wenger repeats this pattern every year - needing to wins in big games because he has dropped too many easy points.
Ozil is nowhere near match fit - he was wildly off the pace in his 20 mins for Germany the other night as well.
