Yeah, probably - seems to be a feature of your republic.

I remember a whole argument a while back that it's more of a hegemony than Empire. Realistically - the name doesn't matter - the outcome is very similar.

Part of the issue is that really is no external check on this power, and domestically there is little to no interest, let alone coverage of what US power means around the world.

So you get a certain inertia around foreign policy because its ostensibly serving American interests abroad - which is rather misleading and in many cases isn't even true.

Well yeah, Morocco. Say no more. The worst kind of Muslims are the Muslims that have been corrupted by the Spanish. And French, oh yes the French too.

We are possibly approaching a point where there will be a Republican foreign policy based on advocating an alliance with Russia ,a Brexited UK,and the U.S. against what is perceived to be a socialistic and German controlled EU.
This might really be 3D chess, with Trump as the pawn sacrifice pushing the Overton window open with his depantsed flabby arse hanging out it.

The U.K. isn't that gone yet. It might sit out, but it won't join with the Axis. Canada and Australia of course to go with the EU, as would Japan quietly.

I enjoyed reading in the NYT today about how Georgia's political middle is badly served by its gubernatorial race, which features (according to the NYT) two extremists.

Hey, Georgia, you could have voted for the most middle-of-the-road, mainstream candidate around in 2016, against the least qualified opponent imaginable, and you didn't. That was your call. If both parties are now appealing to their base, well duh. You had your chance and failed.

The Times doesn't say exactly what tf it is that makes them call Stacee Abrams an extremist. They just say it.

We've arrived at a point where a bigot and a non-bigot are on the edges of political thought... it now seems to be "centrist" to be a little bit bigoted, because bigots are being given more respect than they deserve. In the future, Times, try not taking every methhead conservative's concerns into account when you decide to determine the "center", huh?

They mention that she wants to remove Confederate monuments, which doesn't sound too extremist to me. But you guys know what's really going on here. The Times says that almost 40% of Georgia's voters are in the middle. Well, you have at least 25% strong conservatigve on one end, and 40% nonwhite voters on the other end. So it's pretty clear that by "the middle" the Times means "white people who don't identify as strong conservative." Thus, the true narrative is that the Dems have abandoned the white voter by nominating a black person.

Which is what you wrote, just in different words.

Are we sure she’s not really liberal? The reason I ask is that DailyKos is a huge fan of hers.

Oh, sure, she is liberal. But per Wiki, while in the Georgia General Assembly her notable achievements included working with the Republican governor to reform a Georgia scholarship program, working with that same governor on prison reform, and working with GOP legislators on a public-transportation bill. What sort of "extremist" crosses party lines to work on bipartisan deals?

In her gubernatorial campaign, her main points were that Georgia needs to spend more on education and that Medicaid should be expanded.

Again per Wiki, her opponent's main achievement as Secretary of State was resisting Obama's attempt to tighten election cybersecurity, saying that the allegations of Russian hacking were fraudulent and that the federal government was intruding on state's rights.

The NYT says this extremist, that extremist, what is a middle voter to do? Uh-huh.

Ok, so this is from a libertarian leaning policy group, so I am sure the cost are overstated.

    But here it is anyways.

Even Mexico can not afford to pay for that. Maybe China?

If you look at the sloppiness of the crimes of Trump’s associates, it is clear that white collar criminals dont have a real fear of investigation.

Senator Gillibrand should propose doubling federal resources to investigate and prosecute white collar crime.

    I like this one:

Earlier this year, Senator Tammy Baldwin introduced a bill that would give workers control over the means of production — or, partial control, anyway. The Reward Work Act would require every large company in the United States to have one-third of its board of directors directly elected by its labor force. Which is to say: It would force companies to give their workers a say in how profits are allocated. This arrangement, widely known as “worker co-determination,” is prevalent in Western Europe and a pillar of Germany’s economic model. Both historical evidence and common sense suggest that, had workers’ representatives been in every corporate boardroom this January, the Trump tax cuts might have actually trickled down into workers’ paychecks (instead of pooling in wealthy shareholders’ bank accounts). At a time of record corporate profits, and stubbornly tepid wage growth, co-determination is a simple way of rebalancing the gains of growth in ordinary Americans’ favor — without raising taxes by a single cent.

I wonder if anyone has criticized her for invoking class warfare yet.

And, re the bolded part, had that happened, Trump would be really hard to beat in 2020

Just to be clear, the eductional reforms dealt with cuts to Georgia's HOPE scholarship program, a college program funded by the Georgia Lottery. Not sure what she did on transportation but if she can get MARTA trains out to Cobb County I will vote for her.

Ocasio-Cortez is the gift that keeps on giving. I thought some of Trump's tweets were beyond stupid, but apparently you can get even closer to the edge...
