An FYI, I had missed NC State adding a game vs. USC Upstate on Tuesday. 0-0 draw.

    North Carolina 0, @ Louisville 0
Will Meyer had 4 saves for the Cards, Alec Smir had 2 for the Heels.

    Clemson 4, @ Duke 1
    Diego Campos with the hattie.

    Pittsburgh @ Notre Dame
Freshman Alexander Dexter's 5th of the season was the difference.

    Virginia 0, @ NC State 0
Leon Krapf has 4 saves for the Pack, Jeff Caldwell had one for the Cavs.

Boston College 2, Syracuse 1 OT
Callum Johnson had the game-winner and Simon Enstrom had 2 assists.

Suffice to say, the big news is Pitt going on the road and getting their second conference win and first away from the Steel City. The Panthers are now two games over .500 with three regular season games left and thanks to the eighth toughest SOS in the country are now 14th in the RPI. If they can figure out a way to stay above .500, they should get an at-large bid. It's a remarkable turnaround and one of the best coaching jobs in college soccer in years.

Updated records and RPI. (Tech plays Wake Saturday night.)

    1. North Carolina --- 11-2-1 --- 4-1-1 (C)
    3. Wake Forest ------ 12-1-0 --- 5-0-0 (A)
    4. Notre Dame ------ 9-3-1 ---- 3-2-1 (C)
    5. Duke ---------------- 10-3-1 ---- 3-3-0 (C)
    7. Clemson ----------- 10-3-0 ---- 3-3-0 (A)
    8. Louisville ----------- 9-1-3 ---- 4-1-1 (A)
    10. Virginia ------------- 9-1-3 ---- 2-1-3 (C)
    14. Pittsburgh --------- 8-6-0 ---- 2-4-0 (C)
    17. Virginia Tech ------ 7-5-0 ---- 2-3-0 (C)
    57. Boston College ---- 5-8-0 --- 1-5-0 (A)
    67. NC State ------------ 6-4-3 --- 2-3-1 (A)
    85. Syracuse ------------ 5-7-2 --- 0-5-1 (A)

Updated records and RPI and the week's schedule.

    1. North Carolina ----- 11-2-1 --- 4-1-1 (C)
    2. Wake Forest ------- 13-1-0 --- 6-0-0 (A)
    4. Notre Dame -------- 9-3-1 ---- 3-2-1 (C)
    6. Duke ----------------- 10-3-1 --- 3-3-0 (C)
    8. Clemson ------------- 10-3-0 --- 3-3-0 (A)
    9. Louisville ------------- 9-1-3 ---- 4-1-1 (A)
    10. Virginia -------------- 9-1-3 ---- 2-1-3 (C)
    14. Pittsburgh ----------- 8-6-0 ---- 2-4-0 (C)
    17. Virginia Tech ------- 7-6-0 --- 2-4-0 (C)
    59. Boston College ---- 5-8-0 --- 1-5-0 (A)
    65. NC State ------------- 6-4-3 --- 2-3-1 (A)
    74. Syracuse ------------ 5-7-2 --- 0-5-1 (A)

The Coastal Division of the ACC has six teams, all of them ranked 17 or better in the RPI.

Some interesting non-com games. Of note, none of the non-con opponents have a losing record.

    TUESDAY
    Notre Dame @ 23. Akron (8-3-1)
    34. Connecticut (7-3-2) @ Boston College
    36. Old Dominion (7-2-2) @ North Carolina
    44. UNC Wilmington (9-4-0) @ NC State
    Louisville @ 57. Charlotte (5-3-3)
    Wake Forest @ 66. Elon (4-3-6)
    70. Radford (7-4-2) @ Virginia

    WEDNESDAY
    Syracuse @ 29. Ohio State (7-5-1)
    Virginia Tech @ 64. William & Mary (7-4-3)

    FRIDAY
    Duke @ Notre Dame
    Pittsburgh @ Virginia

    SATURDAY
    Wake Forest @ Boston College
    Clemson @ Syracuse
    NC State @ Louisville

    SUNDAY
    North Carolina @ Virginia Tech

Syracuse has had a rough year but a pair of wins this week would completely salvage their season and put them back in legit contention for an at-large bid.

UNC at Louisville was rather uneventful.

Louisville seemed content with defending the whole game. UNC had the better attacking chances. Yet another game that shows that college overtime should be abolished, just an absolute waste of 20 minutes on the bodies.

Not the conference's best night, though there were some upsets, both by and at the expense of ACC teams.

    TUESDAY
    @ Akron 2, Notre Dame 0
    Zips out-shoot the Irish 13-6.

Boston College 3, Connecticut 2, OT
Eagles rally from 2 down, tie it in the 90th before Callum Johnson gets the game-winner.

North Carolina 2, Old Dominion 1 OT
Freshman Lucas Del Rosario with the brace as the Heels rally late.

NC State 2, UNC Wilmington 1
Manny Perez with 2 assists, including Ade Taiwo's game-winner.

    Louisville 1, @ Charlotte 0 OT
Liam Bennett's first college goal the difference and Will Meyer makes 3 saves.

    Wake Forest 2, @ Elon 0
Luis Argudo's PK was the game-winner and Wake's defense allowed just 1 shot on goal.

    Radford 1, Virginia 0
Despite outshooting the Highlanders 12-7, the Cavs can't find the back of the net.

    Two more non-con games Wednesday.

    Updated records and RPI....

    1. North Carolina ----- 12-2-1 --- 4-1-1 (C)
    2. Wake Forest ------- 14-1-0 --- 6-0-0 (A)
    3. Duke ----------------- 10-3-1 --- 3-3-0 (C)
    5. Clemson ------------- 10-3-0 --- 3-3-0 (A)
    6. Louisville ------------- 10-1-3 ---- 4-1-1 (A)
    9. Notre Dame -------- 9-4-1 ---- 3-2-1 (C)
    12. Virginia -------------- 9-2-3 ---- 2-1-3 (C)
    15. Pittsburgh ----------- 8-6-0 ---- 2-4-0 (C)
    22. Virginia Tech ------- 7-6-0 --- 2-4-0 (C)
    46. Boston College ---- 6-8-0 --- 1-5-0 (A)
    57. NC State ------------- 7-4-3 --- 2-3-1 (A)
    74. Syracuse ------------ 5-7-2 --- 0-5-1 (A)

If BC can upset Wake this weekend and win at State in the final regular season game, they might be able to squeak into the NCAA Tournament. Conversely, State is at Louisville this week and then hosts South Carolina mid-week before finishing with BC. If they manage to get a draw or better with the Cards and then win out, they will be knocking on the door.

One ACC team gave its post-season chances hope tonight while another's took a big hit.

    Syracuse 2, @Ohio State 1
Freshmen Tajon Buchanan and Lukas Rubio with the goals.

    William & Mary 4, Virginia Tech 1.
Tribe scores three straight second half goals after Marcelo Acuna's 9th of the year had tied it.

The loss drops Tech to 7-7 overall. They still have a good enough RPI for an at-large bid (28 as I type) but they finish with top-ranked UNC this week and at a surging Pitt next week. Likely need a split of the final two AND a result in the ACC Tournament to get in to the NCAAs.

Cuse improves to 6-7-2 which isn't great but gives them hope. It's a long-shot because their final two opponents are very good, but beating Clemson this weekend at home and at Wake Forest next week would both give them a winning record and raise their RPI enough to get them in to at-large range.

I'll post the updated RPI later after tonight's late games are factored in.

    Updated...

    1. North Carolina ----- 12-2-1 --- 4-1-1 (C)
    2. Wake Forest ------- 14-1-0 --- 6-0-0 (A)
    3. Duke ----------------- 10-3-1 --- 3-3-0 (C)
    4. Clemson ------------- 10-3-0 --- 3-3-0 (A)
    6. Louisville ------------- 10-1-3 ---- 4-1-1 (A)
    9. Notre Dame -------- 9-4-1 ---- 3-2-1 (C)
    12. Virginia -------------- 9-2-3 ---- 2-1-3 (C)
    15. Pittsburgh ----------- 8-6-0 ---- 2-4-0 (C)
    28. Virginia Tech ------- 7-7-0 --- 2-4-0 (C)
    50. Boston College ---- 6-8-0 --- 1-5-0 (A)
    57. NC State ------------- 7-4-3 --- 2-3-1 (A)
    64. Syracuse ------------ 6-7-2 --- 0-5-1 (A)

Food for thought: There are six conferences - that's one fourth of the D-I conferences - whose best team's RPI is currently worse than Syracuse's, which is the worst in the ACC.

    The conference games this weekend.
    FRIDAY
    Duke @ Notre Dame
    Pittsburgh @ Virginia

    SATURDAY
    Wake Forest @ Boston College
    Clemson @ Syracuse
    NC State @ Louisville

    SUNDAY
    North Carolina @ Virginia Tech

There were about three Irish who could have gotten to that rebound. Looked like everyone on Duke except Pulisic had given up on the game.

    Saturday and Sunday's results...

    NC State 3, @ Louisville 2
Freshman Manny Perez with a brace, including the game-winner.

    Wake Forest 4, @ Boston College 0
Freshman Omir Fernandez with 2 goals and an assist.

    Clemson 2, @ Syracuse 1
Freshman Kimarni Smith assists both Tiger goals.

    North Carolina 4, @ Virginia Tech 0
Cam Lindley with a goal and an assist.

The State win was huge, on the road against a top-10 team. Vaults them way up in the RPI and now has them in good shape for an at-large bid... if they keep winning.

Tech had a bad week. Still has top 30 RPI but is now a game under .500 and needs a win badly this week and then another one in the ACC Tournament. (Or a PK loss if they win this week.)

Here's the current RPI and W-L-T. Seven ACC teams in the top ten and 10 in the top 34.

    1. North Carolina ----- 13-2-1 --- 5-1-1 (C)
    2. Wake Forest ------- 15-1-0 --- 7-0-0 (A)
    3. Duke ----------------- 10-3-2 --- 3-3-1 (C)
    4. Clemson ------------- 11-3-0 --- 4-3-0 (A)
    7. Notre Dame -------- 9-4-2 ---- 3-2-2 (C)
    9. Virginia -------------- 10-2-3 ---- 3-1-3 (C)
    10. Louisville ------------- 10-2-3 ---- 4-2-1 (A)
    21. Pittsburgh ------------- 8-7-0 ---- 2-5-0 (C)
    28. Virginia Tech -------- 7-8-0 --- 2-5-0 (C)
    34. NC State ------------- 8-4-3 --- 3-3-1 (A)
    48. Boston College ---- 6-9-0 --- 1-6-0 (A)
    64. Syracuse ------------ 6-8-2 --- 0-6-1 (A)

TUESDAY (the final non-con games till the NCAA Tournament)
    Notre Dame @ 8. Michigan State (11-2-2)
    14. Akron (10-3-1) @ Pittsburgh
    120. South Carolina (4-8-2) @ NC State
    152. Delaware (5-5-2) @ Duke

Notre Dame continues playing one of the country's hardest schedules. Props to them.

The Akron game is huge for Pitt. They win that, they're in the NCAAs. Alas, the Zips have lost once since August.

    FRIDAY
    Notre Dame @ North Carolina
    Virginia @ Duke
    Louisville @ Clemson
    Virginia Tech @ Pittsburgh
    Syracuse @ Wake Forest
    Boston College @ NC State

The Pitt-Tech game could be for an at-large bid, especially if the Panthers lose Tuesday. Everyone else appears to be playing for seeding.

And that's it. Regular season for the ACC ends this Friday. That was quick.

Wake Forest has clinched the #1 seed and North Carolina has locked up the #2 seed for the ACC Tournament.

I don't necessarily share your enthusiasm for Pitt or NC State. While the NCAA tends to follow the RPI, it's not unheard of for them to "snub" teams like Pitt and NC State come selection time. They benefit greatly from playing an ACC schedule.

Pitt has road wins over 7, 23* and 50* and their worst loss is to 56*.

They finish with 14* and 28. They split those two and it's a good resume with Top 30 wins and no bad losses and a winning overall record.

    Non-con games.

If State wins out, they'll have 10 wins while playing in the ACC, including over 4, at 10 and *42, be six games over .500 heading into the conference tournament and their worst loss will be @ *52.

I don't see those resumes getting ignored.

State played a weak non-conference schedule...there were some truly awful teams in there. At least Pitt has the wins at Columbia and Loyola Maryland.

State has two top 10 wins, one of them on the road.

How many 10 win teams can make that claim? How many of them won't make the NCAA Tournament?
