Hey Keith, I agree. We all know that teams sometimes get all the calls. If not for the fact that WW may have won that game (them being in relegation danger) I doubt I would have minded that much. But honestly, if teams are in danger at this point in the season, I am rather Malthusian in believing they should had done better ALL year and get what they deserve at this point....even 1860.
The 2nd goal was rightfully called off because the goalie got attacked in the 5m box (where he's always the king).
Did anyone see the Nurnburg/Pauli game?? Best goal ever, called offsides. Ebbers was literally lying on his back after he fell on his first attempt, then Hoilett knocked it back over his way, and as Ebber's is lying on his back, he just extends his foot and pokes it in. It was like a bicycle kick, without all the work.
I saw that on some highlights. I laughed my ass off. You see the ball go in that direction and all of a sudden, this leg comes out of nowhere and the ball is in the net. The call was right, but damn, they could have let that one go and I wouldn't have cared one bit.
Kicker has reported that if Mainz gets past Leverkusen tomorrow night to make the German Cup Final AND they finish third in the 2nd Bundesliga, it would force a change in schedule of the Promotion/Relegation playoffs. Right now, the Promotion/Relegation playoff matches are scheduled for May 29th and June 1st. However, the German Cup Final is scheduled for May 30th. So, if Mainz makes the German Cup Final and finishes third in the 2nd Bundesliga, the first Promotion/Relegation playoff leg would be played on May 27th with the second leg being played on June 2nd. But of course, for any of this to matter, Mainz would have to upset Bayer Leverkusen in Duesseldorf tomorrow night. I'm not ashamed to say that even though I know this probably won't happen, I'll be cheering for Mainz tomorrow night. Well, for about 30 minutes anyhow. Then, I'm changing my TV to the Liverpool v Arsenal Premiership match on Premiere! LOL!
According to "Radio FFH" it is now official that FSV Frankfurt will move back to their own "Stadion am Bornheimer Hang" next season! It will be extended to 15000 people apparently and therefore meets the requirements. I think that will make them a complete different club, they can now focus on being the Bornheim-club instead of being just a second club in an oversized stadium in southern Frankfurt.... Will be interesting to see if their attendance figures will increase in Bornheim! And apparently they are expecting 15000 FCN Fans in the Waldstadion this coming weekend...
Crazy last 15 minutes (I had just switched on my tv 10 minutes before) with top chances on both sides (a.o. hitting the post & a Wembley goal from 1860 and a missed pk from Lautern)... 1860 - K'lautern 1:1 (1:1) http://www.kicker.de/news/fussball/2bundesliga/spieltag/spielpaarungsbericht/object/863950 table: 1 SC Freiburg 28 17 4 7 45:28 17 55 2 1. FC Ingolstadt fired Thorsten Fink yesterday. Kicker story in German at this link. Again, I think this is a mistake, but you never know.......
Firing a manager 6 games before the end of the season, is crazy in my eyes. But well, let's wait up if they can get their first win in 2009 on Sunday (I think we both wouldn't mind...
I would love for them to win their next match and lose the one after that very badly. After that, I don't care what they do. But I think they are going to try to hire 1860's current coach Uwe Wolf if they find a way to stay up.
My bet is they are looking for the 6 game bump. But agree, it's stupid....though they have been on a very long losing streak.
Garry, this goes back to my theory of clubs who played over their heads to get where they are to begin with beginning to think they have some kind of entitlement to remain there. I agree that you try everything reasonably possible to remain, but as Uwe said, firing your coach with six weeks left to go in the season is kind of silly. However, in this case, I think Ingolstadt fired Fink with one eye on next season already. I really do think if they survive, they are going to try to get Uwe Wolf. Check that. I think that even if they don't survive, they will go after Wolf. If Ingolstadt is relegated, they would become an immediate favorite in the 3rd Bundesliga for next season. If no other 2. Liga clubs go for Wolf, I'm sure he'd have to consider Ingolstadt's proximity to Munich and the bit of Audi money they have behind them.
