Wow, if this happens, lots of potential changes for the USMNT this new year. Along with Woods, BB will most certainly call-up Gyau, Gatt, if all three get in 8 or 9 games.
Wood is expected to sign a longer term pro contract later this year. Hoffenheim is rumored to be very interested in him too. The former head of the 1860 youth academy is the manager at Hoffenheim now and was key in Wood's rise through the youth ranks. Knows him well and what he can do. I would not be surprised if Wood goes there on a 2m Euro transfer sometime in the next 18-24 months.
Pics and article from the test match The play by play is not very in depth but Wood scored after being on the pitch for 3 minutes. He subbed in for Benny Lauth and played a recessed AM in a 4-4-1-1 formation. The ball was slotted into the area very similar to Dempsey's goal against Panama the other night. Wood slotted into the area and hit it first time into the net. Pics above are from just after the goal.
Great pics! Hopefully, he will see 1st team time. Either way, it looks very promising for the young man for the US team and his Club team.
It appears his injury issues are behind him which is great news! Anytime you hear of leg injuries to a soccer player, you get a little nervous. Now he just needs to keep impressing like he is doing.
If you want the detail the 1860 thread has it. In short, yes a Jordanian businessman bought a 49% stake in the club. This is important becasue VERY few clubs in Germany have ANY type of investor, let alone a foreign one. However, he is not simply pumping money into the club, he is demanding financial transparency as well as taking over marketing rights for the club. His initial investment is around 18m Euros and will reach up to 33m Euros over several years. It is hoped that when we reach the 1.BL more money will come in. At any rate, it is FAR better than the situation we were in before. His ankle injury was overblown in the press. There was swelling and 1860 simply kept him off his leg when he cam back. He had been doing essentially triple duty for 1860 playing on the U19s, U23s and pro team during last season so it was chalked up to a over-work strain compounded by the foul on him in that WM game.
Wonder how long it'll take him to get into the national team picture. Forward is the easiest position to break in at right now
How did Wood compare to Volland? Did Volland get the starts because he was better or because he was on loan and they could wait on Wood?
