http://www.tribalfootball.com/sunderland-revive-interest-chivas-usa-defender-bornstein-230327 Im going to go look around for something more concrete which i hope shows up in today's papers. Still, interesting. Theyve got a good thing going on over there and if it transpired I think itd go a long way in honing Bornstein's defensive skills (or at least move him up to left mid where he would also be useful).
I'm generally optimistic about moves abroad, but I really don't get warm and/or fuzzy feelings about Bornstein's chances in the Prem. I would be surprised if it comes off.
I'm glad to see he's getting Euro interest, but believe, at the same time, that the EPL is not a very good fit. I'd rather him go to a smaller league and get more minutes. He'll be a year sitting on his arse (in the stands or on the sideline) in the EPL. He needs "playing time" in a better league to improve not just "practice time" and a great seat at the game. My .02
Yeah, well good luck to them getting him over for a trial in the middle of the MLS season. Doubt that happens.
I think he has the pace to make it in the EPL. Clearly the WP will be a hurdle, unless he qualifies for a passport that I'm not aware of. I'm sure he could catch on at a mid-table Dutch team instead. That seems like a much better option to me than getting kicked to pieces in yearly relegation battles in England.
Soccer Ives: http://www.soccerbyives.net/soccer_...e-four-eliminated-mls-playoff-teams.html#more "This winter, the anticipated departure of Preki himself is what has Chivas USA uncertain about the direction its headed. Thrown in Jonathan Bornstein's expected departure and Kljestan's potential departure and you have a club that could undergo some serious upheaval this winter. " Let's face it. This guy is our starting left-back like it or not. If he goes oversea for half season and work on some details of his game, it aint all bad. Holland anyone?
I"m all for Holland for most any Yank. Would be good for Johnny B, thin Johnny B, they have their eye on Johnny and a fine man he.
I just hope that wherever he goes he gets used as a left back, and not in midfield or anywhere else. I don't think that it's a coincidence that his U.S. performances started to become more consistent once Chivas USA moved him to left back on a permanent basis.
I've never been a fan of Bornstein, but if he can go to Europe somewhere and become a consistent starter I might have to rethink my position on him.
I have to say this rumour sounds incredibly unlikely as Bornstein was noticed by a lot of people at the Confed Cup, but for all the wrong reasons. Myself I wonder if he'd be able to hack it in the Championship, let alone the Premiership. You have to know the rudiments of how to clear a football if you've got any chance of playing as a defender those leagues. Okay so the Confed Cup can be chalked off as a bad showing for Bornstein, but still there's very little to suggest he could make it in the Premier League.
