People, myself included, have been dubious. But there is a clear change that has happened at the club. Clearing out deadwood? Bringing in actual talent? Getting Ozil to re-sign now rather than waiting until the end of the season where he could be poached?
The change was finally forced upon Wenger. Gazidis has finally carved out a piece of the kingdom for himself. This window belonged to Gazidis and his team, and so will the summer, especially with the guy from Barcelona arriving very soon.
Today is his first day I think. It was reported that he starts in February. However, that's only official capacity. There is every possibility that he's been 'working' since the deal was announced.
He was already working - it wouldn't make sense to start the day after the window closes! Remember he was splashed on the Mavropanos deal in early jan http://www.telegraph.co.uk/football...transfer-20-year-old-defender-sven-mislintat/
https://www.theguardian.com/football/2017/nov/28/arsenal-arsene-wenger So, according to this article, Gazidis has added the following to his team: Sven Mislintat from Dortmund as chief scout Huss Fahmy from Team Sky as contract lawyer Raúl Sanllehí as Head of Football Relations - Starts work in February. You can do a lot with Whatsapp though
Management team are working on an exit strategy for Wenger this summer - regardless of the outcome of this season. Joachim Löw is 1st choice and has been lined up to replace Arsène, after the World Cup. #afc #dfb #öö— AFCAMDEN (@AFCAMDEN) February 1, 2018
Interesting. Mildly concerned with his club record and lack of big club experience but he obviously can get big name players working together as a cohesive unit.
he put signing Auba as a bad thing. I can't take this list serious after that. thats not the Barca guy. That's Sven from Dortmund.
Based on Sanllehi's experience, it looks like his job will be to get the difficult deals done. The way I read it, it looks like Mislintat's job is to find players, and Sanllehi's job is to get the deals with the clubs done, and Fahmy's job is to iron out the details. Question is who makes the final decision.
From the looks of it, its not Wenger anymore. They will consult with him, but it is out of his hands. The signing of that Greek kid shows that.
Arseblog said multiple times that Gazidis did not want a new contract for Wenger. Arseblogger has numerous insider sources. Quite possibly the best connected blogger in football. Plus, he is not a snitch. So, I tend to believe something when he says so in the blog. I assume Gazidis pushed for Wenger's removal, Kronke/Board asked what is plan B? There was no plan B. Now with the new lads there is a plan B and a plan C. I have supported Wenger for the longest time and I hope we can win the Europa League and League Cup to bid him farewell. Dignified and intelligent man as well as a very good coach on his day but no longer relevant to the grand scheme of things.
I am kind of on the same boat. Managing a national team is not the same as managing a club. Plus, it is not hard to look good when you have that level of talent available at your disposal. However, he is a better choice than some of the other names being thrown around...like Simeone. That guys tactics bore me to death.
I think the whole point of the new set up is to get a guy to just manage the team. Kind of like how electoral government works, Gazidis and his dudes are the permanent government that does the bulk of the work. The manager, gets the team ready game to game, and can come and go. If that is the plan a manager like Low is actually ideal, someone who knows how to set a team up, and come up with a plan, and can hopefully articulate what he is looking for in terms of recruitment.
Not "possibility"... "surety". From what I know Raul was part of the triumvirate which revolutionized our transfer dealings, and man was this a different window because of them.
