the funniest thing is he he said "I've ever seen." Not saying people weren't saying Makelele was tactically astute, but instead of saying that he said "I've ever seen" to speak for everyone. I love stuff like that. Also that "naive defending" you often hear about African teams.
This article made me laugh. It's a listing of reasons why supposedly Wenger can finally win the title...yet the reasons read as a museum display of the continued mistakes/issues that have kept us from winning. It's basically an article about hope rather than actual reasons. Wenger is such a joke these days. Looking forward to seeing how this upcoming train wreck plays out...ugh. https://www.google.com/amp/www.newsweek.com/sport-arsenal-arsene-wenger-628201?amp=1
Probably a lack of coaching. The best keepers have a skill set that needs to be taught. It's the same reason that US keepers are a step below the elite.
I don't quite have those powers, no. But the point of my post is that the tag of "stupid" or "tactically unsound" players is applied to both and black and white players. There are plenty of racist commentators, pundits and fans, yeah. I mean, I occasionally watch highlights in Russian.
I dunno. One could make the argument that keeper is the one position that the USA has had the most success with. Howard, Friedel, Keller... all had extended runs in the EPL as their team's undisputed #1. In no other position have Americans done anything comparable... in any major league. I've often thought that goalkeeping is a bit of a specialty of ours.
No doubt that it's been consistently our best position. There's also no doubt that there has always been a level beyond what our keepers can do and the gap mostly has to do with reading the game. Italy has a line of great keepers because of what they teach. We have a line of very good keepers because there's a lot of raw talent here (and crossover skills from other sports).
Why are you comparing them to other American players? None of those goalkeepers were ever world class. That was the point of his post.
Not a single American player ever has been world class? That kid at Dortmund he's the best potential imo
I'm of the opinion that van der Sar is maybe top 5 of all time. He was a perfect fit for great teams. Just calm as could be eta - I thought about this for a minute after I posted it and realized that it's dumb. VdS is really good but I thought of 5 keepers better than him in like 30 seconds.
Wenger has yet to feud with Alexis in public and openly talk about trading his most promising player, while his journalistic goons leak stories about that player's ass being too small. You've got a long time before Wenger goes full Zen Master.
