Solid incoming class, but the 2017 commits will be better. The 2017 commits with Kuhlmann, Haley, Pickett, Briedle, and Harber (if she returns to form from ACL injury), could be better than the 2015 recruiting class.

Anyone know why Aminata Kalokoh — who declares in the 2/3/16 video above that she's excited to sign her LOI with Stanford — wasn't added to the class? And is Kat Hess, who was a verbal commit for the past several years, no longer included? Was the latter an admissions issue?

Didn't see it. A Forum search on her name turns up zilch other than the mention in the Stanford 2016 thread.

If she hurdles Admissions, 2017 commit Civana Kuhlmann would bring much-needed world-class finishing up top. Witness her devastating form at the 2016 CONCACAF Under-17 Women's Championship in Grenada, starting with her GWG against Mexico to claim the CONCACAF title.

Why would you say this? Is she just an average student or are you simply making a generalized statement based on Stanford's high academic requirements?

Two things in response to the last couple of posts:

World Class? A bit premature on the talk of being a 'world class' anything.

I sincerely hope it is the latter. Because even the giving a hint of a comment on a 17 year old kid's academic abilities is just wrong, especially on an anonymous forums such as this.

I took it as (a) a generalized comment on Stanford's high admissions standards and (b) the Stanford Admissions Department's history of not always being predictable lately.

It might not be world-calss at the senior level, but it sure is at the U17 level.

I like simple statements of fact.

Thanks Cachundo. That's an appropriate antidote to all of the speculation about admissions of various recruits and recriminations (also aimed at other schools) about players being rejected at the last minute all based on an outside view with no real facts. All of that discussion over on the 2016 recruiting thread assuming that Stanford had rejected her because of academics and even some criticism of her parents for apparently not advising her about being more realistic.

She in fact couldn't get into Stanford(if you don't believe it then that is that). It doesn't mean that she can't get into any other prestigious schools.
She's not the first one to get denied from Stanford admissions and go to Ivy, and won't be last I'm sure.
It also doesn't mean that Stanford is better than those Ivy League schools. Different school, different admission process

Thanks to 8MilleNium for posting full-length versions of all 3 games. Cook played 180 minutes, McGrady played 180 minutes, DiBiasi played 166 minutes, and Xiao played 66 minutes. Based on what I saw, my guess is that Cook and McGrady will be asked back to more camps.

Fair enough, 6peter. If you have hard data that she was in fact denied admission, your scenario is plausible.

It's just that in every case I have seen so far, no one has come out and said that that is the case (and I understand that it is supposed to be privileged information that can not be divulged by the school.) I have only seen statements that infer that admission denial is what happened. In this case we have your statement "Every year, at least one or two gets denied admission at Stanford. last year it was two, and it looks like (at least) two again this year." (You use the passive voice which leaves wiggle room...) And then followed by Really?'s statement "It's been clear since the time this recruit committed that she wasn't going to get admitted. It sucks that they didn't tell her sooner or do like they did for another bigtime 2017 recruit that they simply told she wouldn't get admitted. The family should have been more realistic. They knew their player's academic record." Again, a passive statement ("It's been clear..." ) But no one wants to be forthright. Nobody flat out says, "Coach A, or administrator B, or recruit C's mother... told me that..." or I saw documentation that..." Who are we protecting here, anyway?

I agree with Kazoo, Soccer Trustee, and Angry Leprechaun over on page 6 of the 2016 recruiting page. There is something unseemly about all of this business and no one is being direct. My cut would be to either label the info as hearsay or pure speculation or name the source or say nothing at all until the facts are known.

    Couldn't agree more.
If we can write personal info about a student, why can no one name the source of that info?
Either give facts or keep quiet.
Drives me crazy when people make inferences and don't back them up.

Would info from a parent count? How about a statement from this parent 2 years ago that the player in question was behind due to a school transfer and taking some online classes due to missing so much time for U17 camps and such? What about info from another player that knows said player and has known her since they were 11? Would any of that count? Would this also count as a reason why names haven't been named? There was another player that switched to another prestigious private school that was also denied admission to Stanford that was much closer to getting admitted. Again a case where a name is being omitted but with a small amount of detective work any interested party can figure out who is being referred to. This info came from someone who was a teammate of said player.

I would also say that Paul and the coaching staff are very upfront with recruits about the requirements for admission. He emphasizes the fickle nature of admissions and that the process can even be difficult for recruited athletes in revenue sports.

This is a dead horse that we don't need to continue beating. Both kids are good kids and they both seem to have landed on their feet in good academic schools that will help start their careers should they graduate.

Congratulations to Kelley O'Hara '10 and Christen Press for being selected to Team USA - Rio, and also to Ali Riley '10 for being selected to Team New Zealand - Rio.

    US Soccer press release

    New Zealand Football press release

For their first group game, USA-NZ face each other Aug. 3. Should be fun to see especially if they're all on the field at the same time.
