Any idea of how "breaking ground" would be accomplished with LA Sports Arena still to be demolished?

That's probably what they mean by breaking ground.

Breaking ground probably means takeover of the Sports Arena and good pr ceremony.

I believe the lease is for 99 yrs from what i remember.

There are video updates on the @LAFC snapchat account:

"demolition is done and this is week 1 of construction. They are pushing around the earth and they are sorting through the materials from the old Sports Arena."
    - over 30 tons of concrete from the Sports Arena are being sorted on-site

If you look on the webcam, the first few steel beams are being planted into the lower bowl.

Kind of odd that they chose to build the higher side of the stadium on the side that will face the sun in the evenings.

Next year, Banc of California Stadium could alter the paradigm. It’s essentially a soccer stadium with NFL luxuries, from the translucent roof and pool deck/nightclub to the literal on-field seating, which Penn adopted from the close confines of an NBA court.

The six LAFC supporters groups will have access to a dedicated spot behind the north goal. It’ll have more than 3,200 seats, its own entrance, a standing section, a 34-degree grade and an upper-deck bar with cheaper beer and a view of the field and city skyline. Penn said club executives have been working with supporters since day one. The LAFC Experience hasn’t been restricted to premium customers.
