Just in case anyone is interested, updated minutes for the meeting I mentioned above were posted. These now include additional documents. The real interesting bits start on page 53 (info on redefining the boundaries and updating the EIR). There is also a drawing of the new stadium position in the site shown on page 93 (which matches with the image in MARCH_'s post). http://lamcc.lacounty.gov/LinkClick.aspx?fileticket=Vlv55-KXvDw=&portalid=17
Daily Breeze seems to insinuate that LAFC will start in the Coliseum in 2018? http://www.dailybreeze.com/sports/2...-club-lafc-seeks-local-unity-via-global-sport Goat Parade talks a little deeper about this news: https://t.co/b0BfZrQTAI
That's a whole lot of conjecture. At think the worst case scenario, for LAFC, is a late home opener ala Kansas City. I would be shocked if they played any games in the Coliseum the first year, I know for a fact that they'd really like to avoid that.
I agree, it makes sense to start in new stadium. But the GoatParade's "conjecture" 100% based on Nick Green's comment that LAFC will play their first season at the Colosseum. So unless he was lying or misinformed, that's pretty big news.
He says "presumably" because he's presuming, for some reason, that they'll be playing in the Coliseum. I have zero idea why he believes that, because everything I know of the project has it complete in time for the 2018 season.
LAFC provide update on stadium process, say they hope to take over site in May 2016 - thegoatparade.com
additional details on timeline from this article. So it looks like they will finalize the stadium design this spring, entitlements complete and demolition begins in May, with groundbreaking/construction beginning this summer. That would give them roughly 18 months in order to be ready for the start of the 2018 season. http://www.mlssoccer.com/post/2016/...and-colors-lafc-hard-work-stadium-and-academy
LAFC stadium mentioned in newest issue of Building Design and Construction magazine. http://editiondigital.net/publication/?i=295965# Look at page 34.
I like steep stadiums, good atmosphere. Hearts' Tynecastle in Edinburgh is the best MLS sized stadium in the world, imo, in terms of game atmosphere. A very intimidating small stadium during games.
I love Tynie, too, but it's a bit small for MLS nowadays as a sellout there is under 13k. MLS needs at least double that. That said, I love the history and charm of the design, not the mention the location, and the steeply raked stands are great for visibility.
Just a correction to my post: Capacity at Tynecastle is 17k, not 13k. That wouldn't have been a bad avg attendance for MLS a few years ago, but not now, especially for a market with potentially high attendance like LA.
I know it's generally bad form to plug your own thread, but since you are following the LAFC Stadium progress you may want to check out my new thread over in News & Analysis - "four cities, four teams and three stadia" is an opportunity to compare and contrast the designs, locations, immediate surroundings, and whatever else about the LA, Minnesota and DC stadiums that will be built more or less concurrently over the next two years. Talk about the Orlando stadium isn't excluded, but their project is running about a year ahead of ours, so less real time comparability.

Don't get your hopes up. I'm not saying LAFC won't be playing in 2018 but expect delay and LAFC playing away maybe for half of the season.
Over on Four cities, four teams, and three new stadia in News & Analysis I posted updates on the three 2018 stadium projects. In short it's hurry up and wait time everywhere.
