Funny.. Because when my wife complains that I don't answer the phone when she calls, I use that my pockets muffle my ringtone so I didn't hear it.
One of my biggest pet peeves is when my family members (wife) doesn't answer the MOBILE phone that we pay so much for. Its mobile for a reason. Just answer the phone...unless you are pooping. I don't want that. Not talking about when they are at work. Just when I know they shouldn't be otherwise engaged.
Unfortunately, I encountered a guy who didn't take your advice. I walked in to a men's room and there was a guy washing his hands and another guy in a stall talking. I assumed they were talking with each other, but the hand-washer walked out. Seems the guy was taking a (really loud) dump while giving tech support over the phone... "OK, on the left side there's a pull-down menu and BRAAAAAAAAP! so you want to click on the second one and BRAAAAAAAAP! and then you'll see another screen, and ..." Apparently the guy was unfamiliar with the phrase "let me call you back in a few minutes."
In the days before mobile phones, lots of fancy hotels included a phone line in the bathroom, within reach of the toilet, so business travelers could continue working while relieving themselves. Doubtless many still do.
Can't pass up article on the stadium design. https://www.timbers.com/post/2019/0...itect-brad-cloepfil-designing-providence-park Also, the first canopy going in today.
Rough guess 3,554 additional seats (24,698), I believe they said 5k. Was the number lowered? Edit: Original articles says 4K plus luxury suites.
I remembered Golub saying it was low 25,000. They've always maintained 4k seats were added. Eyeball test may not indicate changes elsewhere in the stadium.
The architect of the new addition shares hi view. https://www.timbers.com/post/2019/0...itect-brad-cloepfil-designing-providence-park
The original plan had event space above the three tiers. That may be the confusion. By the time the plan was submitted to the city, that tierwas gone. The architect is still saying they added 4K ( see post #658 )
I'm sorry, but while I know SCUSA stands for Soccer City USA, I will never be able to unsee that they are apologizing to Portland in Italian.
Does it have to be "seats"? Are standing room areas not often counted as stadium capacity? I know they do at MBS in Atlanta. I agree the structure to the right of the new tiers doesn't appear to be able to be used during games (assuming it is stairs/elevators)...no windows or balconies. The area on the left appears to be balconies that could easily house standing room sections. It is 3 or 4 tiers of decks. It appears this could easily hold several hundred.
SRO isn't counted in the stadium capacity and MBS dosen't count SRO in their capacity. Capacity (seated) is 42,500 and with SRO they could get additional 2,500. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Atlanta_United_FC
I don't think this is a hard fast rule across all stadiums (could be wrong). Also, you are right about MBS. I just knew they count the SRO in their attendance numbers. Seems very likely the numbers Portland FO have been giving could include SRO sections. Have they specifically stated that they don't include any SRO? If you are coming up 500 "seats" short it seems there could be multiple places these people could be accounted for. So does San Jose not count their SRO sections as part of their 18k capacity? I was thinking a very large portion of the seats behind one goal (non bar side) are standing sections.
That's the supporters section, so yes it's counted as capacity, they are safe standing seats. Just as the sections in LA, Orlando and Minnesota
Did the remodel include safe standing? I seem to remember that TA opposed the introduction of safe standing because the FO would only include it if TA gave up some of their end of the stadium.
I don't know. I didn't hear anything about safe standing seating in the remodel. If they did, I believe the only place they could do that it would be on the scoreboard side of the stadium.
I don't believe so. TA is where they'd do that, obviously, and I don't think TA seating saw any changes.
Yup. https://www.bigsoccer.com/threads/stadium-porn-the-portlandia-edition.2043382/page-27#post-37636820
The story goes that safe standing would be in the lower 100 sections, but the upper 200 level TA would go from General Seating to assigned seating. TA declined as they still wanted it all to be General Seating.
Using the SCUSA as a guide, you can tell that the sections are 22 seats wide (the A is very helpful with this). You can then go for one of the more oblique sections to gather that the bottom 2 are 9 rows deep, and the top one is 5 rows deep. There are 7 full size sections, and if you assume the two ends are each half size, that makes 8. 9+9+5 -> 23 23*22*8 -> 4048
Good work. Keep in mind that each tier has “bump-outs “ evident that reduce seating by two rows. They appear to be for either handicap or press box purposes. For example, 0n the Turner construction web cam, the SCUSA level shows them to the left of the “S” , the top of the “U” and the right of the “A”. Not all seats are lost, but it probably brings it down to the 4K level.
