I mentioned earlier that Merritt had tweeted something bout a larger scoreboard. Well, the old one is gone and just the frame supports are left ( right edge of this frame on the KPTV weathercam, which had its view changed.)
Nausea inducing video. It’s a long way to the top... 🏗A behind-the-scenes look coming tomorrow. #RCTID #BAONPDX pic.twitter.com/i7C14mW8Rk— Providence Park PDX (@ProvidencePark_) January 16, 2019 And the view. Shows how close even the top level is to the field. On top of the world. The view from what will be the highest point. 😍 #RCTID #BAONPDX pic.twitter.com/UPcpB1toGA— Providence Park PDX (@ProvidencePark_) January 16, 2019
The last thing to do with Providence is to add a steep row of seats going up just below the window of MAC and put a huge jumbotron above the windows to not obstruct the views.
Wait so you're saying if they expanded in that area those seats are only available for the high end MAC club members and or prospective members?
No, I’m saying there already is seating on the MAC balcony. Haven’t you ever looked at the overhanging seats at the South end? Those seats are for the exclusive use of MAC club members.
Ahhh yeah forgot about those. They still need to eventually expand that end in 4-5 yrs time. Would be one of the best most intimate 30k stadiums in the world.
I have business in the PP end of town every couple of weeks, so I stopped by the stadium to show a couple of views that aren’t on the web that I know of. First, here is a shot from the SE showing the scale of the addition. Second, from the NE corner showing how the addition ties into the existing North stand. The metal bits on the truck are a piece of the canopy about to be lifted into the park by the blue crane. This is on the corner of 18th and Morrison to avoid the 750v Max line catenary cables. Here is the piece being lifted into the air. And here it is being deposited into the stadium at right around the home team bench area. Here is a view of the new stands from in the Stadium ( well, it’s in the stadium on game days)
Found someone who appears to know what's going on. #ProvidencePark observation update #HumpDay Addition. Awning work, grab rail, elevator shaft and HVAC Lots of Action. Lots of hard work on the park #RCTID pic.twitter.com/3532PHCWfa— BobMc (@bobthebuilder4u) January 23, 2019
I was tempted to poke fun at this video for it's extreme stadium geekiness until remembering how avidly I followed the DC United Audi Field contruction, Aand for years before that our struggle to get a stadium. Providence Park is an MLS gem and the expansion only enhances that.
Keep your eyes on the security cam. The roof is going into place! https://www.senserasystems.com/public/TurnerConstructionPortlandJob3/M78835366254 Quick video of the install today. Not sure how many of you are Athletic subscribers, but this is a great article about the expansion. https://theathletic.com/791055/2019/01/29/providence-park-expansion-timbers-thorns-mls-stadium-nwsl/
Latest progress A view from the street shows progress on Haack and fire sprinklers, as well as some wall framing buildout.
Well, I was reserved on the 4000 seats figure until an actual count came out. Seen too many stadiums in MLS promise above a figure only to have it decline slightly.
They only actually offered 3,000 seats when seat selections were offered to current season ticket holders. I’m not clear on what was done with the other 1,000. Probably corporate commitments.
Or could it be 1000 more single game tickets (non season tickets) seats for each game? Or it could be a mixture of that and what you suggested.
Well, they have held out a couple thousand same day tickets in the past to keep people on the waiting list interested, so maybe.... But those people would be happy in the older less we’ll served sections. These new seats will have a higher tier of service- even the top tier which has pricing comparable to existing reserved seats. The bottom tier of the new seats will be an even better level of service than the existing Century link club seats, and they are a pretty nice experience. The tanner Creek level ought to be for $3,600 a year.
"rain cover"... That is the fanciest (or simplest) way I have ever seen the word "roof" said. They forgot to add "sound amplifier"
Like the old joke about the guy with the talking dog and he auditions for the circus. He asks the dog, "What makes the crowd sound louder at a soccer game?" The dog says, "Roof! Roof!" They get thrown out, and when the guy looks angrily at the dog, he says, "What? Should I have said 'stadium sound amplification system'?"
Since the tweet was deleted I'm posting the corrected version. 1093958577641779200 is not a valid tweet id
Mike Golub, President of Business for both teams, with plenty of details in this interview (Starts after 14 minutes in). Highlights off the top of my head after listening: The "low 25,000" capacity New concessions and refresh for the West side 150% larger video board, higher image quality New sound system (I've seen pics of scaffolding on the west side, so that must be about the sound system install) Seats are about to go in soon. https://www.timbers.com/post/2019/0...n-plus-preseason-costa-rica-discussion-latest
+1 on that. When I first heard of this idea, my first thought was "this will make it the most telegenic stadium in the league." Since then Atlanta has come along and impressed in its own way, but I still think that will be true. The 'bad news' here is for people hoping for other improvements. It's the high-dollar nature of these tickets that make this expensive renovation worthwhile in terms of ROI. Other additions in the cheaper areas that would have to work around the MAC or other obstacles seem a lot less likely to me.
