Some condolences to the families of the two workers who died. This is a disaster for the 2014 World Cup. http://www.nytimes.com/2013/11/28/w...ses-worry-on-brazils-world-cup-aims.html?_r=0 It deserves its own thread, because it is a significant event to both the World Cup and fan and worker safety in general.
wow, sad news. I wonder if they will keep a moment of silence or some kind of tribute to these workers during the inauguration.
just to be more precise, it was not the STADIUM that collapsed. It was the huge Liebherr 1350 crane that collapsed while lifting a 450 tons piece of the roof. The piece of the roof then fell over a section of the stadium. VERY SIMILAR accident to the Milwaukee Miller Park crane collapse of 1999.
You might already have worked this out but it took me a while: the diagonal white framework in the picture is the roof part that was being lifted, and the white framework laying on the ground is part of the crane.
