Starting this thread because it doesn't really fit with the "in season" movement since the window is closed, but figured we needed a spot for player rumors. Start with this, reports out of Portugal that Rosell could return to the US and KC has shown interest. http://www.record.xl.pt/futebol/nac.../oriol-rosell-pode-voltar-aos-eua-973428.html
We would have to trade up to get him wouldn't we? I can't imagine many teams in the allocation list would pass on him. Im More curious about whether he has interest in returning to kc.
Not a player rumor, but an assistant coach rumor. Apparently the Ottawa Fury coach is leaving at the end of the season, and rumor is he'll become an assistant here. BREAKING: Which MLS team is Marc Dos Santos going to next yr? Hearing he'll be an Assistant to SportingKansasCity Coach Peter Vermes #TSN690— Tony Marinaro (@TonyMarinaro) September 15, 2015
Kerry going to be the head coach for SKC 2? Should have checked your twitter feed before that comment!
That's just my guess, Zavagnin coaching the SWR would seem a good move for KC to have the reserve team and first team play the same style so integration later is easier. And others are reporting it's a done deal. 643822550267596800 is not a valid tweet id
After struggling last season and the spring season this year, something has clicked with that club. Odd timing to leave his "own gig" but if it's another indication of that SKC USL club then I'm all for it!
Kartik Krishnaiyer @kkfla737 2h2 hours ago Dos Santos would be in the top 5 managers tactically in MLS. Big loss for NASL IMO. Really great manager, top man also. I like this ... from someone who covers the NASL. To his timeline for more comments regarding Dos Santos ... and they're obviously stated before the SKC/assistant thing was announced.
Dos Santos is a really, really good manager. He has excellent experience, not only in North America, but in Brazil too. He could do a great job with young players. I'm shocked that he's leaving to be an assistant, a real steal for Peter Vermes.
This helps explain it @TonyMarinaro MDS is good friends with K. Zavagnin (asst. coach in KC)— Patrick Leduc (@patleduc15) September 15, 2015
This is a really interesting move....so many questions can be asked... Is he coming in to run a potential Sporting II? Is he coming in so KZ can run a potential Sporting II? Is he coming in because PV wants a fresh look at our tactical approach? Are PV and RH looking at the mess that is the USMNT, then thinking we should get more managerial talent in house, just in case? Is the NASL is worse shape then we've been led to believe?
http://forums.bigsoccer.com/threads/sporting-kc-player-rumors.2024540/ This would have been nice (much better than the RVDV). Would have kept Peterson on the bench ... maybe in January?
If we were trying for Dos Santos at one time, it's possible. Agree that it's not likely, but it seems like something we'd throw an offer out there just so Robb could tell us on twitter that we're tried for a solid attacker type and came up just short.
I just mean, look what it took in terms of the team involved, the money involved, and the sooner-than-anticipated (at the very least) implementation of a new rule. And that's Gio, who is much less of an ego and a superstar than Vela. At least from what I've seen from them, Vela is gonna want bigger lights and bigger checks than Mr. dos Santos. I don't think he'll come to KC for that.
Fair enough ... I didn't really mean it was that realistic. Heck, if it would have been us, I'm sure Robb would have let us know (directly or indirectly). Another near miss announced on twitter!
I'm just still mad Sporting missed out on Andre Ayew. I was thinking about this earlier today. There seems to be a big flaw in Vermes's recruitment strategy. He tends to go towards out of contract players, right? Avoiding transfer fees. A great plan. Only problem is that most contracts do not terminate midseason. He would have much better luck landing quality OOC players in the summer window, a window which he largely disdains or at the least spends much less time and effort on. And now I'm wondering if hiring a new assistant is intended to give him the time and focus during the season to continue building the team rather than just running it. Huh.
It could also be that SKC needs new ideas. The high press Sporting Fit model is faltering, at best. Perhaps there simply is a shelf life on that style. You either cycle through a lot of players or modify things to suit players you want to stick around or have long term deals. Something is not right with this team, and it looks eerily like the same thing around the same time in 2014. I don't know anything about the new guy, but perhaps it's a simple way to infuse new thinking into an existing squad (akin to bringing in a new offensive coordinator in pointy ball).
Not a new player rumor, but I was glancing at the salary listings... Quintilla is four cents over 50k. That's unusually cheap.
