Yeah, what's that all about? And why do all these pictures now have to play up the comedy? It's the reason I didn't bother with Deadpool or Ant Man. The trailers turned me off completely.
I have the opposite problem, I cannot watch any of those movies if they take themselves too seriously. Think Zach Snyder's vision of Superman. In the end these are films about people who play dress-up to fight criminals, an overly serious approach can seem absurd. Even Nolan's (overrated) films managed to incorporate some (dark) humor.
And anyway Spider-Man of all characters should have a humorous tone, as the character himself is one of the funniest in comics (Deadpool too for that matter, who just took the wisecracking-during-battle aspect to the next level). And I thought making Ant-Man funny was a good choice too, since the concept and name for the character invite ridicule anyway.
For all three the humor is part of the character's personality, so the movies need to have that common thread running through. If Peter Parker was some introverted emo teen, not many people would be able to relate ... or find him all that entertaining.
Perhaps it's an "age" thing. As I recall, Peter Parker in the original comics from the '60s (in other words, the real Peter Parker) was hardly a laugh riot.
The character developed way beyond his origins, for most of his history Spider-Man has been famous for wisecracking, and even using that as a means to distract his opponents while fighting them. And that was true no matter how ********ed up Peter Parker's life was personally. Not to mention that using any character's earliest years as the "real" version of that character is pretty dubious. Though I do like the Steve Ditko depiction of Spider-Man as a skinny little twerp. I actually think this Spider-Man takes a lot from the original Ultimate version, with him being younger than in the main series and having a powerful mentor (Nick Fury in the comic, Iron Man in the movie).
A for Avengers right? if they wanted a total MILF they should have cast Christina Hendricks. I'd have bowed in obedience
