Spector started today for Birmingham, but unfortunately his day was cut short extremely early: BCFC FANS FORUM @bcfansforum Spector injured, reckless Boro tackle, Fahey On for Blues Colin Tattum @colintattum Spector crumpled under late tackle from Haroun, minute's treatment now hobbling away, looks like a sub already #bcfc
Birmingham City midfielder Jonathan Spector's ankle exam has come up negative for ligament damage, meaning he should be available when the Blues return to action with a March 29 Championship visit to Crystal Palace. The US international was removed just four minutes into Saturday's league win at Middlesbrough after being hacked down by Faris Haroun's rash tackle. The club initially feared the worst, but by Tuesday, Spector was down to nursing some lingering pain and bruising. "It's not as bad as they originally thought," Birmingham press officer Andy Walker told MLSsoccer.com. "He's expected to be back after the international break." http://www.mlssoccer.com/news/artic...rmingham-citys-jonathan-spector-will-packwood
Birmingham City FC @BcfcDotCom 1h Callum Reilly is going to come in the last first half minute here. Spector is being taken off on a stretcher. Absolutely gutted for him #WP Colin Tattum @colintattum 1h Spector carried off on stretcher, looks in a bad way, crumpled over on/twisted ankle, Reilly on 45+4 #bcfc
a lot of English games are out of control rough. I am amazed that many guys go through a season without bad injuries.
The above mentioned ankle injury does not seem to be as bad as the tweets make it seem. A Birmingham spokesman classified him as day to on the 11th. He has missed Saturday's and today's games. Birmingham have made their way up to mid-table after flirting with the relegation zone earlier in the year. They are in 12th, 7 points off the last promotion playoff spot and 6 points clear of relegation in the compact Championship. There are 3 games to play.
They won't be promoted, but Spector is a free agent this summer. Will be curious to see where he ends up.
I wonder if there is still any foreign interest in him like a few years bavk where he had an offer from a Bundesliga club.
Seltzer posted a rumor that Cardiff is interested. http://www.noshortcorners.com/2013/05/goodie-disposal-unit.html Original: http://www.expressandstar.com/sport/2013/05/02/transfer-rumours-may-2/
outstanding! i hope so! talk about your best case scenarios. This guy has been underrated as hell as a midfielder, and his hard work might be paying off in a big way. I was hoping a playoff/promotion candidate would swoop in......hopefully its them!
Sticking with Birmingham City is fine, he's pretty much guaranteed starter minutes with them when healthy. Cardiff wouldn't be a good move with the money they're going to spend this summer, at best he would be a squad player there.
Birmingham has offered Spector a contract extension. No word if he's accepted yet. Birmingham City FC @BcfcDotCom6 May #BCFC can today confirm that Paul Robinson, Jonathan Spector, Wade Elliott, Colin Doyle and Akwasi Asante have all been offered new deals.
I hope he turns it down and goes to a playoff/promoted/recently relegated team, that is his level. he belongs at a Brighton, QPR, Cardiff, Leicester, Nottingham Forest type team
Sky Sports seem to think he's close to re-signing: http://www1.skysports.com/football/...ctor-set-to-sign-new-two-year-Birmingham-deal
If so, not a bad move for Specs. Birmingham has a decent shot at promotion next year, which would put him in Premier League for the 14-15 season, and a shot at one last big contract at the age of 29. Still has an outside chance of making WC roster, but he needs to play more defense to pull through (and hope for some injuries).
I think he would be a fantastic holding midfield, maybe attacking midfield option for us. Those careening runs he did against Manchester United and Sunderland that said hes got Bradley, JJ, Holden, Cameron ahead of him in the middle of the park
