He is positioned at all times to deliver different kinds of balls. Just watch him. He is thinking 'above the play', and has made very few mental mistakes. If you watch the Spanish national team, they are so good because they have great technical skill on ball. Meaning, when they receive it, the ball stays on a position on their foot in which they have lots of options, and quickly. The ball doesn't dribble off their foot into space and limit their options.
