lol remembered that one German guy on espn said Kampl was a better player than Son or something? Or how Son wouldn't succeed in Tottenham? I wonder what he thinks now.
Great to see MP saying goodbye to Son for the summer Mauricio & Sonny share a moment in Hong Kong as the manager interrupts his interview to say thank you before he heads home for summer... 🙌 pic.twitter.com/0yScCCwYUX— Tottenham Hotspur (@SpursOfficial) May 28, 2017
Tottenham set to sign 19-years old winger Cengiz Ünder from Basaksehir. They are also looking to sign Thomas Lemar, another winger, from AS Moanco. Pochettino looks dead set on bolstering his attacking options.
Honestly if I were a young winger I would steer way clear of Spurs right now. Look at NJie and now NKoudou. Idk why they were even signed if they're not even going to be given garbage minutes.
Maybe for Ünder, but for Thomas Lemar? He's better and younger than any winger at Spurs right now. He'll slot right into the starting 11 straight away. (But I doubt Lemar would want to move to Spurs anyway I guess)
Yeah if you're a known quantity being bought for the first XI then it's not a bad move as Son has shown. But someone like Under will not see the light of day under Poch, whose one fault has been good rotation.
Sure, but from Poch's view he needs a back-up winger. Lamela's injury/family issues at the start of the season that just finished left a huge gap in the Tottenham attack. But at that time, Son stepped up and proved that he was more than able to fill the gap left by Lamela. Now, looking towards the next season, where they have another continental campaign, they don't really have a strong back-up winger/CAM, with Sissoko wanting out/disappointing, plus N'koudou is no better either. For example, if Son gets injured, would they even have a player to cover for him? Also, don't forget that with the current situation, Son has to return to Korea in the summer of 2019 at the very latest to perform his military duty.
I'm all for having cover, but consider the minutes Georges NKoudou has gotten this season and Clinton NJie before him. Wimmer and to a lesser extent Janssen have faced similar issues. Poch gives his cover players zero game time when he has opportunities to rotate the squad, instead for example having Eriksen and Alli play 90 minutes every game, every week, even if they have 2-3 games to play. I think Poch is fantastic but he needs to rotate better is all I'm saying, especially since they have had Europe on their mind these past several seasons. You can't expect cover to slot in seamlessly when they've been sitting on the bench with zero action for half the season. Poch has been a bit lucky that his players are mostly very young and that injuries have been short and isolated. If Son didn't go on a tear while Kane was out then they would have come nowhere near challenging for the title on top of a very disappointing continental campaign.
Lemar is a good option and in the long run, a good buy at 25m. with the type of hip injury Lamela is trying to recover from, i don't know if he'll ever be the same and unfortunately, there's chance of always re-aggravating it. almost bigger question atm, albeit still rumours, but what are they going to do if Rose and Walker leave?
I agree. He needs to learn that he cannot stick to one squad for the whole season especially when you have prestigious European stage at stake. And actually, that could be a potential unwinding of the team as @Kanuck raised. Rose to a lesser extent, but Walker is definitely unhappy with the treatment he got from Poch over the last few months. Despite being one of the best performing wing-backs in the league, Poch consistently dropped him in the crucial matches for Trippier and mentioned that Walker was not up to the task of playing day in day out. Add Dier, who's also not happy with his treatment by Poch despite his very impressive displays. They have been strongly linked with signing Ryan Sessegnon, a 17-year old full-back from Fulham. He's had a stellar breakout season, and he's the kind of player Pochettino likes; young, fast, and versatile (plays LB but can play LW as needed). He'll be a great addition to the squad if the Spurs can fend off other suitors for Sessegnon.
Hmmmmm... Bellarabi? and what do you guys think about Max Meyer? wouldn't Schalke want north of $30 M and how serious is Levy going to be about spending that much. just rumours out of Germany atm. then again if Walker moves (the most likely) and Rose, they would have money to spend. Poch needs to keep Rose though if they want to get serious about Europe.
