That's not a whole lot. But: "These readers are affluent professionals: 67% have an annual income over $65,000. 68% work in professional/management level positions." Interesting website.
Soccer America had over 30000 subscribers in 1995. Losing 60% of your subscribers in 8 years is brutal.
Re: Re: Re: Soccer America has 12,763 subscribers Yes. I am definitely sure about the 30000 subscribers statistic in 1995. Two years ago, Soccer America had just under 20000 subscribers before it switched from weekly to biweekly. The continuing erosion of paid subscribers has to be a cause for concern for the Berlings.
Maybe they'd get more subscriptions if they done away with the pretty pictures and started writing articles that take more than one minute to read.
That's been a trend in mags for years now. To fit in with our hurried schedules and short attention spans. MTV meets the Mags.
I've never subscribed but I pick it up at a newstand. Subscriptions doesn't tell the whole circulation story.
Although I enjoy reading the daily e-mails from them such as "Soccer America Confidential", I must admit I miss the weekly black-and-white magazine. Much more thorough and informative in the past. The current magazine has been dumbed-down so that even George Bush can read it (sorry, I couldn't resist).
Re: Re: Soccer America has 12,763 subscribers I'll bet US Rugby Journal, American Cricket Monthly, and The Limey Expat Football Times have all suffered equally precipitous drops since that glorious day back in '95 when Al Gore came running out of the garage workshop screaming 'Eureka! Eureka!'.
At a newsstand? I can find FourFourTwo, World Soccer and When Saturday Comes, but I rarely, if ever, see Soccer America on the shelf.
Re: Re: Re: Soccer America has 12,763 subscribers Yep. Al Gore's Internet has hit all the print media hard including magazines and newspapers.
Even if this number is true, you gotta figure: who are these subscribers? A: Everybody important in US soccer. And yeah, it is expensive for the subscriber, but not for the numerous cheapskates who read his copy. (Me.) (...and I still haven't forked for the BS "Primo" membership...)
I've subscribed to SA for years but don't intend to renew my current subscription. Not because I don't like the magazine, or the new format, but because it just doesn't make sense. Every piece of relevant information they report is immediately relayed for free on BigSoccer and/or NAS. If it was cheap, I'd probably pay anyway, but for the price, it isn't worth a few nice pictures and Paul Gardner every two weeks.
True. I read through Soccer America in 30 minutes. 442 takes well over 5 hours to read cover to cover (and you can subscribe to 442 for $39.50/year with shipping from UK).
I subscribed for years, but finally dropped them because of one word " cost". I can get alot of my info off the internet and they just became a loss on the cost/ benefit line. If they would cut their yearly rate by 25% they would draw alot of people back. ( gee that sounds exactly like what the Krafts should do for the REVS)
442 is great if you love international soccer (esp. EPL). Excellent quality, great articles, amazing pictures. Single copies sell for $5.95 here in NYC.
