Not that I necessarily think tags are a good addition but doesn't your "at the moment" comment void the rest of your argument? Tags will be useless unless they are used, at which point they might instead be very useful. Right?
That's a bit like saying someone who is training for a marathon can't run the entire 26.2 miles at the moment, so that person should stop training.
I supposed if you read my post in the negative, you can get that. But if you read my post in the positive, it has a different message. I was saying that if (assuming when) it is fixed, they could be useful. But in no way does my post suggest they should be dismissed, at the moment. Another issue - Adding a video. So there there is an inconvenience in adding a video in thread. To test out, I wanted t add the highlights of today's Spurs match. I could have done that the traditional manner and just added the YouTube url directly in the post, but thought, test out this new feature. Step by step: Went to the Tottenham forum Went to the desired thread (Swansea v. Tottenham) Went to bottom of the page to the reply box So, clicked on the folder labeled "Media Gallery Embed" in the reply box. Got a "Your Videos" section at the bottom of the reply box Clicked on "Add Media" was taken to a new page - the "Add Video" page. On that new page, selected "A site category" of Tottenham Hotspur" A new box showed up below - entered url (from YouTube) under the Embed section Clicked the + to add video The video showed with info Selected "SAVE MEDIA" Was taken to Home--> Videos --> Tottenham Hostpurs Then I had to navigate back to the initial forum Had to reselect the thread Had to scroll to the bottom to the reply box and select the "Media Gallery Embed" folder. Had to select the video to have it posted in the thread. Finally had to select "POST REPLY" to have the video posted. 18 steps to post a video like that. 3 issues immediately came up. First, if I am adding this to the thread, I should not have been taken away from the thread. Really, I should never have gotten past step 6. Second, the add video "+" should be changed to something clearer - perhaps an "add" button rather than a "+." Third, way too many steps, even being taken away from initial post, to add a video like this. But, there are also other concerns. Forth, this is a Tottenham video, meant for an in-match thread. Some members may not have wanted to know the result prior to reading the thread, but as the video is prominently displayed, they didn't have that option. And if you think this is a minor issue now, wait until we get to the World Cup... Fifth, is that the video I posted is intended as a Tottenham video, first. I don't have an issue with it being site-wide, but the video gallery where the video is hosted (see step 13 above) should have a link back to the initial forum, in general, but to the original thread as well. Sixth, if I delete the video from the Gallery, it does not delete the video from the thread where I posted it (I went through the above process twice). Seventh, when in the video section of BigSoccer, there is no indication where the videos came from (what forum). That should be included. And, again, I want to raise a concern about the appearance of porn or something graphic.
I repped this not just because you seem to have some valid concerns, but because of the time and thoroughness you put into it. [emoji122] P.s. I haven't encountered the video gallery much at all. But it sounds like something I wouldn't much care for.
I agree. During World Cup 2014 people complained that ESPN ads here gave the scores of World Cup games in progress.
I seem to remember it was one of the earliest criticisms, so I thought it already was on the list, no? How about this... Or is that referring to something different? EDIT: Wait a minute! Maybe the feature is there already?? Do threads with new posts show up as blue titles with a little blue dot at the left? And then otherwise the thread titles show up as black? Duh! My bad. I feel like I haven't been seeing that happening, but now I realize that I'm probably reading every thread completely from My Threads list, so when I go to the forum list itself they all show black. Like I said, duh!
No, it shows new post on threads in blue, but the problem is it doesn't do the same with entire forums. To revert to the old website functionality, forums with new posts should also show up in blue, the same way threads with new posts show up in blue.
This post is not for the irony impaired...I am not getting alerts for this thread. I have not had an alert for this thread since North Bank posted at 9:30 on Wednesday, April 5.
When I open threads with unread posts, the site initially takes me to the first unread post. But then once all media (youtube/twitter mostly) loads, it throws the display out of alignment with the first unread post. It's a bit annoying that my view isn't re-aligned with the first unread post like the old system did.
I don't know if it's my problem, but my iPad/Safari interaction today has been beset with page reloads, freezing and general lagging. If anyone else is experience similar platform malaise, speak up. Thx, Jay!
I want to mention a minor problem, only because it was raised up previously but I never saw it in recent recaps: if I am not wrong, I wasn't the only one to find that the "NEW" tag on posts wasn't visible enough, compared to the older version. Does anyone has captions from the older forum to show what exactly I mean?
Alert hovering is broken again. That feature in the new version appears to be not stable or reliable. Not the biggest thing in the world, but still annoying. And I ask myself, have I met a feature in this new version that makes the annoyances worth while? I can't think of one.
Y'all, there have been a few things over the last week or two which have been reported, but quickly got resolved. I'd request that if you notice something, give it a couple of hours before reporting it. I can see those issues being temporary issues of behind-the-scenes work.
Those green arrows again ....... I've been trying to get over the weirdness of having to scroll to make them appear and trying to use them more - but lately I move the cursor nearby, then hit the scroll bar to make them appear, then click the Up arrow,....and nothing. I click it a second time and it takes me to the top of the page like it should have done the first time. Does it have a time-limit between when it's activated and when it will work (beofre it disappears) that I should be more aware of?
Yes you've hit on what I think are the main 2 problems with the green arrows: 1) How you get them to appear in the first place is strange and seems inconsistent. (FWIW, I move my scroll wheel a bit and that usually does the trick) IMHO, hovering in the lower right corner should be the trigger but that has never been how it works. 2) Once you get them to show up, they only last for 2 seconds. That barely gives you time to move your mouse to click the arrow. If you're going to stick with this paradigm, I have suggested they last for 3 or 4 seconds before disappearing. #2 would be moot, if #1 was changed to a hover-only trigger. Others would say that there's a 3rd problem, that these arrows exist at all. I don't agree with that, but I can see the value of allowing each user to toggle the green-arrows on or off as they see fit. All of this may be wishful thinking if the admins feel that the recent upgrade is "good enough" and have moved on.
ha, I meant to say scroll wheel - what a scroll bar is, I don't know - my fingers have a mind of their own when I type)
Scroll bar is the vertical bar usually on the right side. Before there were scroll wheels there were just scroll bars. Apple has kind of done away with scroll bars in their newer operating systems so if you're on a Mac that might explain why they seem foreign to you now. In any case, bars & wheels do one in the same thing, which includes causing the green arrows to pop up.
