While we all understand a "professional foul" and that it is a part of the game, holding, particularly shirt pulling appears to be increasing, and most noticed at the college level. It appears that referees at the professional levels take the holding/shirt pulling very seriously and deal with it per FIFA guidance. However, at the college level way too many referees ignore AR108 and give wide and unsupported interpretation to the "... in the opinion of the referee ...". I've seen average defenders contain great mids and forwards through shirt pulling. And, it slows down the game and makes it very ugly. Has anyone else noticed this?
