I hope everyone is watching the showing of the 1993 FA Cup Final on FSC right now... the 1-1 draw with Arsenal at Wembley. We had such a fantastic team back then. Chris Woods, Viv Anderson, Nigel Worthington, Carlton Palmer and his amazing 12-foot long legs. Roland Nilsson and his perfect hairdo. Chrissy Waddle dominating the midfield, he was so skilled. John Harkes down the left blazing a trail for Americans in Europe. John Sheridan's perfect distribution. Paul Warhurst coming off his 18-goal season as a makeshift striker. Mark Bright and the legend that was David Hirst up front. (A bit of trivia about Graham Hyde, one of our subs on that day - we had a work Christmas party at a hotel in central Sheffield, probably around 1995 or 1996, and Graham Hyde crashed it along with a couple of other friends of his. Graham started flirting with the then-girlfriend of one of my colleagues, so my colleague took Hyde out into the parking lot and punched him in the face!) I was 18 in 1993 and remember the anticipation before this game was palpable. If you remember we'd beaten the Blades in the semi final at Wembley, but I couldn't get a ticket; I remember going into Sheffield the Saturday morning of the semi final and it was a ghost town - removing 90,000 people from a city of 450,000 and sending them all to watch a football match in London really thins down the shoppers! Then watching the game on TV later, and screaming at the top of my lungs celebrating Waddle's free kick goal. Days like that made me the fan I am today. Wonderful memories of when we were still one of the giants of English football, full internationals all over the field, 35,000 in the stands every week. How I wish we could have some players of that calibre in the current squad. Hopefully Mandaric will gve us the money to do it.
i had no idea. i'd've had it recorded. damn. i know it's unlikely, but any chance it's going to be re-shown?
no kidding. never in a million years would i have thought fsc would show that match. oh well. i'm not sure if this makes up for the woodshed beating we got against exeter, but it's a damn good start. and yeah, i'd love to see one of the top clubs go to hillsborough, though i'm sure it'll be away to forest or swansea or someone like that.
good stuff. u should definitely share this at :owlsalive.com pookspur has been known to post there, and electrickeeper too. and, crap! i don't have fsc.
i'm still a relative newbie to being a wednesdayite (5+ years give or take), but even i know this should be properly classified as a "losable" match. it's the perfect situation to look on the dimly lit side of reality. we should win. lower quality opponent... we get 'em at home... facing the prospect of an actual cup run .... yup, this is definitely losable for the blue and white wizards. ***hey, i'm as upbeat as any of you about mandaric and the changes that have been made and are being made, but this is still sheffield wednesday we are talking about.***
you are a true wednesday fan you would also fair well as a spurs fan. he he he... aren't you from sheffield originally too? feel free to post here as well : owlsalive.com
From owlsalive.com: Bristol City FA Cup post match ramble by Steden link used by permission. good stuff...
omg... sorry about the chiefs.... as a RAIDER fan that is saying a lot. i still can't believe we didn't win the division. 6-O in division play and we were so close to winning 3 different games. honestly tho, we'd have been beaten by the ravens too...

i meant from "one of our own from OA..." is that what u mean ? thought that was clear but.... i can see that it is misleading now. my bad. ...however, danny saw my stuff about The Wednesday @macforums.com... and i sent him to OA from there...
my fault ... i thought you meant it as in 'one of bigsoccer's own'. i knew that you'd tipped him off to the OA, and i thought maybe it'd been from here. i've got it now.
