I just realized it is possible for Serie A to become the #3 league pushing the EPL down to #4 in two years. It is very likely that the Bundesliga will become the #2 league in Europe at the end of this season. So, the Serie A needs to outscore the EPL by just 4.631 coefficient points in the next two years including this one (2014-15 and 2015-16). They have already scored 1 point more than the EPL so far this year, so approximately 3.6 points are needed. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/UEFA_coefficient#Current_ranking I sincerely hope that Italian teams know this and are taking the Champions League and Europa league very seriously. The advantages of having 4 Champions League spots versus just 3 are obvious and apparent... especially if that extra spot comes at the expense of an EPL club. This NEEDS to happen, lol. Is it wishful thinking to hope that fans or fan clubs can do anything (write to or reach out) to impress upon Serie A clubs that this needs to happen?
So, here's the latest situation from the rankings. As mentioned earlier, the EPL has scored a total of 4.631 points more than Serie A in 2012-13 and 2013-14. Thus far in 2014-15, Serie A has scored 2.595 points than the EPL. All the EPL teams have been eliminated from Champions/Europa League. So, If Juventus, Napoli and Fiorentina are able to score 12 more points in the remaining CL/EL games (win = 2 points, draw = 1 point, bonus for progressing per round = 1 point), then Serie A will have earned 4.6 points more than the EPL in 2014-15. This means that in 2015-16, Serie A will only need to earn the same number of points as the EPL (won't have to outscore EPL) in order to become the #3 ranked league for 2016-17 pushing the EPL down to #4.
Can you imagine that amount of fanboy pants that would be soiled if Italy passed up England? That alone would make it a fantastic cause.
wow i didn't know that .. so Juve in the semis's and an all italian final for EL is all we need. Lmfaoo juve making the semi's should be fine idk if they could go further ... but an all italian EL would be very tough ... If we get passed Wolfsburg then maybe .
Update for the ranking situation... As mentioned earlier, the EPL has scored 4.631 points more than Serie A in 2012-13 and 2013-14. Serie A has scored 4.595 points than the EPL this season, cutting the difference to almost zero. Napoli and Juventus can earn even more points, although I'm obviously hoping Juve lose both their next matches. So in 2015-16, Serie A will only have to earn the same number of coefficient points as the EPL and the mission will be accomplished. Don't eff this up! :-D
Wow we did really good this season. Amazing what EL can do for the coefficient. If we get the right teams in europe next season i think we will get the job done.
SOOOOO BASICALLY WE MADE EUROPE BEND OVER LIKE SALS MOM AND FCUKED THE SHIT OUT OF HER LIKE ELVESUVIO. classy
Yesterday, West Ham almost went out in the second round of the Europa League: they won against Birkirkara (Malta) only at the penalties (the two legs ended 1-0 and 0-1) The elimination of West Ham would have been a great way to start the new season for Italy.
We just need to match the EPL to pass them for next season .. I hate to say it but having Lazio in the EL would help Italy more then having them in the UCL ... Napoli and Fio should do really well. The trick should be doing extremely well in the group stage. Juventus and Roma just need to avoid coming in 4th and we need every team going to the next phase.
We need a strong el showing. Roma will probably drop down and if Lazio makes it past the cl playoff round they'll probably drop too. If Juve can replicate last season and if an Italian club wins the el we can make a big jump. Of course this is assuming that the epl flops again. But lets face it if the epl loses the 4th cl spot all the big clubs will start complaining and whining to Platini, they'll find a way to get a 4th spot.
Roma, Napoli, Lazio, Fiorentina, and Sampdoria are a stronger group in EL than last season's imo. Everyone except maybe Sampdoria has the quality to win it if they actually take it seriously.
I think it will be a question of how good their coaching is. If it was still Miha I think they could go pretty far. Zenga though is kind of a mystery. But they are in for Balotelli at the moment so hopefully they surprise us all.
didn't samp just lose like 4-0 in their 3rd round of EL qualification. doesn't sound like all italian teams will make it to even the group stage....
