    It's actually closed door.

We've had plenty of non-citizens play for U.S. youth teams. Remember Danny Potts?

Of course I do! Which ... says a lot about me. I only have him as being called up to the U20s once, for a pair of matches against France in 2011. Did he actually play? Were those matches open to the public?

IIRC, Freddy also played in some games for the U17s before he was a citizen, though I don't remember if they were against other countries.

In any case, the fact that things are frowned upon doesn't mean they don't happen. But if this is all OK, then why not play Ferreira against Japan?

Going to have to rely on stats and 1st or 2nd hand reports. Don't get the point in at least not streaming it in 2019. Either draw people to their website/youtube or sell it for peanuts like last time. USS has terrible consumer relations.

    Starting XI:

Goal, thru 2 of our more exciting, young attacking players.

Aaronson may be turning a corner, contributing directly to goals for club and country.

Toye's play speaks for itself lately.

There are 4 scheduled halftime subs. Wish we'd see that more for the senior NT in friendlies. Also wish there would have been a second match. In addition that both were televised. Wishing for a lot of things from this program.

    More chances:

    but finishes 2-0:

Sounds like a satisfying performance w/ Toye, Aaronson, Soto, Dotson as some winners from camp. Unfortunately there's no way of providing first hand confirmation.

Not exactly shocking, but thought I would throw out this quote from a U.S. Soccer release sent before the game:

“We’re still quite a ways out from qualification,” Kreis said of his approach to the friendly. “Right now I think we’re still in an evaluation process, so for me I would like to approach this game with the thought that everyone will play. We’ll try to see everyone in a real, live international match.”
    https://www.ussoccer.com/stories/20...ic-qualifying-preparation-camp-in-chula-vista

Given the timing of qualification, it makes sense that Kreis would want to keep his options open (and pass that impression on to his players). He would seem to have backed that up by putting 20 dudes on the field against Japan, though, importantly, not all at the same time.

From that you can also infer that Kreis is miffed at USS for only giving him one competitive game to evaluate based on this time (and not even in front of a crowd), as that is the best tool a manager has. He only got 45 minutes or less on one night for a good majority of players.

For me, the key is finding a game plan that works with the 100 kids you have, rather than saying "This is how I'm going to play should I ever be put in a position to play 100 kids simultaneously" and then forcing a system on them.

Also from the article Haji Wright had to withdraw because of a knock, Niko Hamalainen has not filed for a one time switch, "while (Jesus) Ferreira has obtained his U.S. citizenship, the process continues to finalize his eligibility.

    The assistants were:

"In Chula Vista, Kreis’ staff includes former MLS players and/or coaches Jeff Cassar and Steve Ralston, Seattle Sounders assistant coach Gonzalo Pineda, New York City FC goalkeeper coach Rob Vartughian, Atlanta United goalkeeper coach Aron Hyde and NYCFC academy coach Mehdi Ballouchy."

    Indifferent.

It seems like Gonzalo Pineda has really made a home in Seattle after retirement.
Love having a competent, former Mexican international on the US U23 staff.
Who knows if it'll make a difference, but it can't hurt when you're trying to retain Ledesma, Mendez, Llanez, and company.........................

Is this camp over? Should I pick up Mason Toye for MLS fantasy this week?

Highlights of the two goals are in the match report. Also, weirdly it seems like they had an announcer call the game even though the stream was not released?

    Subs not used: 12-Andrew Thomas

Huh that is weird to have commentary unless they thought they might stream it?

Regardless, that was a great play by Aaronson. The nutmeg and great pass. I really like Toye too. I know he is kind of the flavor of the month right now because of his game against LAFC, but even before that I thought he looked good in all of the games I had seen him in. I was at the open cup final and Toye had the ability to have defenders on him and no support and still make a good play.

I wonder if Mendez makes Kreis think of his shots. Both of them can nail it.
