From reddit: Note 2/3 lower salary playoff teams were the last ones in (Columbus and RSL), while the third won their third Supporters Shield in six years and broke the MLS record for most points in a season. Pretty much half the league should be trying to model themselves after NYRB at this point, they've shown that having a consistent style and spending big on youth development can pay off.
Average salary on an average Bundesliga team is $1.3 to 1.4M USD. Is Vako an average Bundesliga player? Ans: No. https://www.statista.com/statistics/675490/average-bundesliga-salary-by-team/
For good or bad, the Earthquakes won't lose any player in the upcoming expansion draft: https://www.mlssoccer.com/post/2018...elect-five-players-mls-expansion-draft-dec-11
Spoke to Jungwirth a couple of days ago, whose option got picked up and will remain with #Quakes74 for the 2019 campaign. Piece on our chat out in the 24 hours.— Joel Soria (@soriajoelfutbol) November 26, 2018
Glad to hear we picked up the option on Flo. Can't wait to see who Almeyda chooses for his 6. Hopefully we're moving on from Godoy.
The key item here is that the Earthquakes picked up the option so they either must have a plan for him or he is cheap enough to keep around. I wonder what Flo believes his contribution would be since he floated all over the pitch in 2018 with little sticking power in any given spot.
Florian is probably a better defender but I think the team needs him more in midfield. He hasn’t been the the total problem in the team just has helped contribute to the team’s overall ineffectiveness. Not really his fault though. Nice to see him coming back.
I'm hoping Flo will go back to his earlier form, before he was playing for Stahre's youth soccer coaches.

Disappointed!! NOT happy about: Affolter (though he did play well his last time out), Kashia isn't good enough, Qwiberg is a waste of space, Eriksson stinks, Godoy isn't good enough and too inconsistent, Vako is overpaid. I'm hoping that once we get into pre-season, we see more moves and some of these guys do go away. Some trades? Loans? Something. And cutting Jahmir Hyka and Chris Wehan; and forwards Danny Musovski and Mohamed Thiaw is not cool, unless they wanted to go. Hyka was often our best player. He really brought a spark to our otherwise lackluster efforts. Musovski and Thiaw could both have develped into decent players. Should have given them another year in Reno, unless Ian didn't want them. But he played them both a fair bit. Damn! Good thing I have an open bottle of this! Go Quakes!! - Mark
Disappointed that Hyka is not coming back and a little surprised that Wehan is getting cut. The others not so much.
Bummer Hyka was let go....Qwiberg is a nice guy and wanted to be here, but as mentioned numerous times here at BS, didn't show much this season. Interesting Flo got a new contract. Glad TT got one, so maybe the new regime will give him more playing time to see if he lives up to the hype. Glad Hoesen will be back as well. Salinas and Tarbell getting new contracts, that is a bit of a head scratcher.....
Some of guys getting contract renewals may have already happened a while ago, or be done with trade in mind or expectation they will get picked in expansion draft... Anyway, isn't it about time to start the Semi-official 2019 roster thread?
The article stated some of the renewals were performance based (likely number of starts or something). I'm guessing mis-management on the Quakes end let that happen. I'm very disappointed. That is essentially the exact same roster that was the worst team in the league and something like third worst ever. While i fully believe the coach had more to do with that than the players, I was really hoping for me (example, our keepers aren't close to good enough and Tabell still has a contract... hopefully we can sell him to someone).
its a swindle. good folks of SJ are just plain getting ripped off. I don't see how this is sustainable unless they have a big signing or two in the hopper.
